17x9 Tire question
What are the pros and cons of running 225, 235, and 245? And sidewall?
I have 17x9 +42 wheels on the way. Also I plan on lowering the car. Not slamming it but I want to rid of some wheel gap. Might even go springs. Car is a daily driver so I like to keep it pretty pratical and simple. Thank you for your time! |

Well on a 9" wheel I can tell you right now you can't run a 225 without stretching the hell out of it.Even then don't think a 225 would fit. Similar story with most 235 Tires. I would not run anything smaller then a 245 on a 9" wheel.

Go a minimum of 245, unless you want stretched tires. 245/40/17 is very close to the diameter of 215/45/17.

It honestly depends on what tire you run. Some run a lot wider than others. A 225 tire with a 45 sidewall will fit and have some stretch. Recommend tire size for a 17x9 is 235-265.

Greatly dependant on tire and sidewall height as Trust86 stated. For example, a 245/40R17 Hankook RS4 is flat (no stretch, no bulge) on a 17x9 wheel, but a MPSS in the exact same dimensions has a very small stretch to it. 235/40 will look more or less the same as 225/45 in terms of stretch (there is some, still acceptable).
I would personnaly go between 235 and 245, but not higher than 255 and lower than 225. With 45 profile for 225 and 40 for everything else. |

I ran these the set before what I am not. Good over all daily driving tire. Good enough grip for most situations. Handles water well. Be careful as the temps outside dip down around 40f anything under that they can be a bit greasy till you get them warm.

I've just been through the same exercise and finished up with 245 40's as I was sold on the Michelin PS4 and they only make them in 245 and not 255.
The PS4 has ever so slight stretch to the sidewall but not much but I'm more than happy and very impressed with these tyres (tires ). |

I've ran 255~235 on a 9" wide wheel. I'm currently on my 4th set of 235 wide tires, IIRC. They're only slightly stretched. Works perfectly fine.

I have 245's that measure 225. I also have had 225 that measure 245. Totally what tire you run.
I ran 3 sets of 245/40/17 MPSS. Great all around tire. I can also say the A/S3 is a good choice.
