Radium Catch Can Setup? Turbo idle problem

Can anyone confirm the proper configuration for the dual catch cans on a turbo setup, specifically JDL turbo.

Little background, I'm having trouble with my car at idle. It's very rough and stalls A LOT! I also keep getting codes p0171 and p1171. My tuner has confirmed that the tune is fine, but said the cams have not learned yet. I hose clamped all the evap hoses under the intake. Then disconnected the catch cans to make sure that wasn't it and nothing changed. So, I just want to make sure I do have it right.

Any other Ideas?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you have got an intake air leak or unmetered air in getting into intake via catch cans or some other means.

It could also be exhaust leak effecting o2 sensor readings.

Both are lean codes.

Could also be problem with maf/map/o2 sensors, but most likely a leak.

"My tuner has confirmed that the tune is fine, but said the cams have not learned yet" that statement sounds like crap, the only time cams are effected is directly after a flash or ecu reset, you just need car to idle for about a minute before vvt system will operate. cam sit a zero offset at idle anyway. It not going to cause those lean codes.

It sounds like you have a vaccuum leak somewhere.

Check ALL your hoses, including the non-catch-can hoses.

you should be able to log

vvt cam angles for intake and exhaust cams at idle they will be zero but off idle they should both move away from zero.

agree with csg_mike its most likely a intake leak somewhere or possibly a check valve if fitted

Who is your tuner? How close is the BOV to the MAF? Turbulent air will piss off a MAF sensor.

JDL places the BOV on the IC, so pretty damn far from the MAF. The MAF is located on the cold side piping off the TB. The older JDL kits placed the BOV on the passenger side of the IC, so that would put it somewhat near it but still pretty far. The newer revised setup puts the BOV on the hotside of the IC.

EDIT: Actually I forgot the first revision of their kit had the BOV on the MAF coldside piping. Can have OP confirm where the BOV is placed.

The cc's should be ran the same regardless of the kit, except on the driver side. If you have a fitting off the intake piping (which you should), you need to run the outlet to the intake (bottom port). The Inlet goes to the CCV that sits under and behind the AC Compressor (this is the line that plugs into the stock intake tube on a stock setup).

The passenger side should have the PCV going to the inlet (top of can), and the outlet going to the intake manifold where the PCV originally connected to.

What size BOV spring are you running?

I'd rather not say who the tuner is, he has helped me out a lot. There is only so much you can do remotely.

I have the bov on the intake pipe.

It has the 8 psi spring in it. I've been reading that most ppl go with a 11 or 12 psi spring.

Thanks for the help

Well I double checked all the hoses and they all seem to be fine. All my evap hoses are hose clamped, the cc hoses are in the right spot, and my vacuum manifold is tight and not leaking. not sure where to look next. I might make myself a smoker

It is definitely your BOV. Get an 11 psi spring and some washers or a 12 psi spring till it stays closed at idle.
