Keep in mind this is with those particular length springs too. Using a different spring length will wildly change those measurements.

I'm getting a clunking sound from my HKS GT4 coilovers on pillowball mounts. At first I thought it was due to wear on those bearings, but when I sent it for a rebuild the shop mentioned the bearings were fine, but instead was a fastener/screw(?) that was coming loose.
After the rebuild the clunking stopped, but after 6 months the clunking is back again. Any idea what is causing that clunking, and which fastener that the builder is referring to? The clunking is most obvious when driving slowly over rough roads, but on high speeds it is not that noticeable.

I have - but it has been some time hence the rebuilder has probably forgotten about it.
Could it be the top hat nut?

The clunking is coming from the upper mount area, but I'll check the end links once I can. I'm reading around on other forums which they mention that top hats have to be tightened with an impact gun but I'm not sure what I'm looking at; any guidance is certainly appreciated.

The hex is there to hold the shaft stationary while you torque the nut.

Probably answering my own question, but looks that I'll have to hold the Allen key insert while tightening the outside nut down.
Manual says to tighten nut down to 49N-m, could do it with an open wrench as my torque wrench is the socketed type which would block the Allen key. Also to prevent the nut from backing out again, is the nut removable so I can apply blue Loctite to it?

You can get a crow's foot and run it 90 degrees to your torque wrench so you don't have to math out the difference in torque. I'd use Loctite as a last resort.

Here's an odd one regarding KW V3 Clubsport Coilovers:
Is it normal that I'm often hearing hissing sound similiar to let's say bicycle fork operation from rear of the car with this style of coilovers when going through bumps/cracs or speed bumps ? Last edited by MrSkubi; 11-22-2024 at 07:44 AM. |
