Perfect! I picked up a 2015 Series.Blue on Friday and one of the first things I noticed was that the doors wouldn't stay open. I fabricated some shims from 18ga (0.040"/1mm) aluminum sheet I had laying around. Works a charm even with my steep driveway.
Since this is my first post I can't thank anyone. So thanks to ermax and radroach for devising the solution and capturing the pictures. |

Thread necro - getting my shins bruised and soon I will have a tibia fracture if I don't address this.
@ermax @Ultramaroon @WNDSRFR I'm trying to figure out what part of a milk jug / alcohol bottle you guys were referring to shim the plastic piece - here where I live, milk is typically sold in paper cartons, and alcohol in glass bottles or aluminium cans I don't really want to use duct tape as it's going to leave a sticky mess from the adhesive.

Try a piece of 100 Plus plastic bottle. I think that's the name of the sports drink you have over there. I think it's made of the same material as milk bottles in the US.

Haha... well, it's more about finding something of appropriate thickness that can be cut easily enough. A strip from an aluminum can folded over a couple or three layers thick would work just as well. Don't cut off your fingers!

Finally got around to complete this. Door is much weightier and stays open even on a slope. As @Ultramaroon suggested - aluminium foil easily works by folding to required thickness (I did about 1.5mm on each side), flattening it with a hammer and cutting it to size with tin snips.
It's the little mods that affect everyday usage which makes the biggest difference. Thanks @ermax !

A friend of mine just took delivery of a 22 BRZ and I got a chance to check it out today. First thing I noticed was the door check is completely different and much more substantial. I just looked it up and they are about $45. I may buy one and see if it fits. If so I’ll get one for the other side. At a glance it looks like it would be a direct fit.

Ya they must have changed something in the 2017 facelift because I had forgot this problem even existed since I got the 2020. It has never closed on me once no matter how steep an angle.

I just looked up this TSB and it doesn’t seem to be related to the doors staying open. It looks like it addresses corrosion issues on the cover plate. Maybe while fixing that they also fixed the door issue. Anyways, the GR86 door check arrived yesterday. I picked it up a little while ago and installed it just fine. It was a direct fit and now my door stays open even on a steep incline. I used to be able to close the door by blowing on them. Hahaha. I’m going to order one for the other side now but this time I’ll order it from Subaru because they sell the part for half the cost of Toyota. |

Thanks for the additional details. I can’t believe we are using milk jugs and aluminum foil to fix this issue when there was a legit long term fix. Hahahaha. |

I am sort of embarrassed that I never noticed the change on the 2020 and could have told people there was an easy fix two years ago. Pretty sure that the face lift years had the changes done that the TSB covers. It really does work great although I do miss my car hugs every time I was parked on a 5 degree or greater slope.
