I like to look at shooting as an art. Haven't done it in a long while but I will when I have the time. Very satisfying for me

They look cool whether we are talking about a buttery looking revolver, a vintage double barreled shotgun or a fully decked out assault-style rifle. Few people don't enjoy a good Matrix, western/Tombstone or John Wick movie. As someone with a proclivity towards anything mechanical/engineering, I can respect what goes into a firearm. With that said, there is something less sexy about an Apple Watch, BEV or a railgun compared to a Grand Seiko, ICE or a traditional firearm.

I prefer to shoot steel. Gratifiying hitting a target at distance and hearing that gong ring.

We were shooting 800 yards Saturday with my son's AR10. Nice to hit steel. We need a better spotting scope.

I can smack 8" steel from a cold bore on my AR15 (5.56) and Ruger American (.308) at 300yrds all day. I would LOVE to find a place to stretch to 800yrds. You're lucky wherever you are (and I'm jealous)

Idaho.

The range is about 30 miles north of us. You can shoot up to 1760 yards (1 mile). Member only. Family membership is $210/yr.

Dang, rub it in

You can barely get an indoor range membership for double that around here.

Really? My local indoor range is like 40/month.

Dang, that's 480/year. I guess we're not the only ones suffering over here.

Yeah, I figure that is not bad if you use it. I have private property access so I don't have a range membership. I just go with my buddy that does.

$225/year for my 17yd indoor range (includes rental of any of their guns, you just pay ammo)
$160/year for my 200yd outdoor range. Can knock $20/year off if you attend one of their range cleanup events

If we want to shoot longer ranges... gonna be driving a few hours.

Gotta love BLM land for outdoor shooting. Now that I live near a lot of it I'm wanting a rifle. Thinking a Springfield Armory M1A Scout. Anyone shot one? M1A has pretty solid ergonomics for a lefty so it has me leaning that direction.

Place near my work has a 100 yard indoor range. The three shooting positions are in the building basement but the path is 3 buried 4 or 5 foot concrete pipes. Not actually shot it myself, but I observed once during a tour. You get a doppler effect sound from the bullets.
