daily driving and heel-toe method
So this is just more a general question seeing how different people drive their cars.
Let's say you're driving 60mph and you want to slow down. How many downshift and how many just stick it in neutral and use the break? I've heard arguments on both sides saying that if you downshift, you wear out the clutch faster, but if you use the break, the break pads are cheaper to replace. i'm not really sure if there is a right or wrong answer, but if you do downshift, how many of your rev-match before you downshift? or do you downshift and slowly disengage the clutch? |

I picked up the habit of rev-matching/heel-toe downshifting years ago with my SRT4, it just comes natural to me anymore. I'd have to say that a proper rev-matched downshift is easier on the clutch than just downshifting and slipping the clutch (gently letting off), but would be a little harder on the drive-line if you are off a few hundred rpms. If you drive somewhat cautiously then you don't really need to brake to slow down if you downshift and coast.

I just flick the left shift paddle and the car blips to match the engine rpm all in .100 of a second. AT for the WIN. They only thing that shifts faster is a miliion dollar F1 car.

I guess i can sum up my question this way: 1) do you downshift to slow down or pop it in neutral and use all break? 2) if you downshift, do you rev-match using heel toe? |

I chose the MT. If I could afford the GTR and it was offered in MT (which would be slower to accellerate than their Paddle shifter) I would still choose the MT... Nothing quite like banging through gears!!!!!! MT FTW!!!!!!!!! |

only downshift to speed up..when going from 60 mph to a complete stop , id recomend braking all the way and then popping it into neutral. Also when downshifting to speed up, always rev match, i dont think even think thers any other way of downshifting unless u power shift, which is bad....heel toe is mainly used for coming out of corners faster...not rly necessary in daily driving but up to driver

If I'm just driving casually, coming to a stop, (say, 40mph on the road...or any, for that matter) I usually just down shift once (not heel-toe) and use that to start slowing down. Sometimes, I'll go one gear more after the revs drop, and then I'll start using the brake. Again, this is just a casual deceleration and I always rev match, so for me, using heel-toe isn't necessary. (I usualy cruise with the rpms low, so the revs won't blip up much past 5k if at all).
In autocross, I've never had to switch into 1st (out of 2nd) ever....The one time I did, I got a slower lap. So for autocross, I don't heel-toe downshift since I don't have to/never had to. Lol |

I usually stay in 5th, then brake all the way to 20mph... Shift to neautral and brake until i come to a complete stop... I only rev match at a stop light if the light turns green while im braking... I only heel-toe when i feel like being a "racer" around the curves...
