True story.

If for purely setting the best lap record, would you do it in the CR or BRZ (at the current mod state)?

Depends on the track.

Can't even say its a power vs handling thing, since the BRZ out accelerates the S2k at some speeds....

How about... if you had the choice of only keeping the CR or the BRZ, which would it be?

Power is anemic, and it shows at the track. At a "balanced" track like Buttonwillow 13CW, the BRZ is faster, period. If you need power, then the BRZ may suffer (SoWS CCW).

The BRZ is far more aerodynamic. It'll pull on the S2k from a 100 roll. It pulls on my CR when the CR has the 70RR + tune. Yes, with a 50+ hp deficiency, it'll pull until about 130, and the S2k won't pass until 135+, just due to sheer horsepower. Funny, saying that a S2k is winning via brute force.

The BRZ is anemic. Weaksauce. It'll feel slow. A Civic Si will pull from a roll with JUST an intake. Remember, the BRZ's peak power is at 7000 RPM, and it's relative gearing puts it right between an AP1 and AP2. 2nd goes to 58, 3rd to 84, and 4th to 107, and 5th to 131. Yes, I've hit the limiter in every gear except 6th. The car topped out at 147. Gearing gives it less mechanical torque multiplication than any year S2k.

Build quality is not like that of the S2k. Bass will rattle panels. No creaks or rattles though.

Only toe adjustments front/rear from the factory.

It is impressive, though, that the FA20 makes 200hp at 7k rpm, over 1k lower than the K20. Means torque output is significantly higher with the same displacement. Also the car runs EXCEPTIONALLY cool. During my morning commute, the S2k is at full operating temperature within minutes. The BRZ can take as long as 20 minutes to get to that temp.

I with the BRZ had a double wishbone front, although the strut doesn't seem to be hurting it much at the level of modification the BRZ is at.

We're on the 2nd engine, but the 1st wasn't an actual failure per se. It had a rather unique symptom, and Subaru elected to give us a new engine so that they could take our original engine for teardown and analysis.

The BRZ is designed for coilovers. Effortless for adjusting; no cuts or drilling is required. The requisite "holes" are already in place from the factory.

The rear seats conveniently fit 4 tires. Coincidence? I doubt it.

Engine never loses oil. No blow by. At least, the 2nd one. The original engine lost oil over time. New engine is 7 iterations newer, from my understanding, so they're constantly evolving, as did the S2k.

Fuel tank design is superior. You can track with the gas light on, and not have starvation till you're dry.

The BRZ corners better, not because of center of gravity (marketing fluff, IMO), but because it uses the tires more efficiently. You know how the S2k is always a struggle to keep the rear tucked, and a GT wing massively improves cornering speed by keeping the rear in check? Well, the BRZ (with Tein SRCs) will lose traction at the front and rear at nearly the same time. I can control if the front or rear loses traction first with just input. It's that balanced.

I'd still take a S2k over the BRZ. The BRZ just isn't as fun to drive. To be fair, the BRZ/FRS will be the most fun car to the vast majority of the buyers, because they haven't experienced a S2k (or the few cars that are better).

That brings me to my next question. In your opinion, what is it about the CR that makes it a "better" car for you?

Edit: Just saw your previous post that answers the above question.
