HELP huge gash :( - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Was driving on the interstate and a large piece of wood flung up from a car in front and gashed my release series terribly. Is there anything I can do other than touch up/clear coat? It ate into the molding pretty deep, but from my knowledge they dont sell release series side skirts anywhere. I bought touch up/clear coat but that is just damage mitigation. What a terrible way to start the day.

Ooof... Sorry you gotta make this post. Is it cracked? Can you put your finger in it? Thats definitely a larger gash and it would need a full fiber glass repair to fix it right if it is cracked/punctured. Either that or order a new one from Japan. If its not cracked or punctured, probably filler/bondo would do the trick

That really sucks!

If you are not a DIY painter already, I would leave this body work + paint job to a professional. I bet (with the hassle of finding one and the cost of that OEM part) fixing/painting is cheaper than replacing.

Did you get the offending parties' insurance? Looks like a body shop repair unfortunately.

It sounds like the wood was already there. It's a losing argument to try and blame the driver that kicked it up.

I doubt even a bad paint repair is going to be noticable by anyone who isn't looking for it down there.

It varies state to state, so it's not necessarily a losing argument. A dash cam would definitely come in handy here.

Bubba agrees and suggests just fill it in with bondo if necessary and touch up paint over it.

Meh, so small and underneath who cares? That area will see more knicks and scuffs from inconsiderate passengers kicking it getting in and out.
