Toyota paint
I have a 2014 FRS in Raven. It's the last black car I'll ever own for sure. It had swirl marks on the hood and deck when I bought it 5 years ago, so I had them clear coated which took care of that. Then I had it ceramiced. It has been garaged all the time I've owned it, but I don't know about prior years. the swirl marks told me the previous owner didn't take good care of it, but it looks really good now. Today my ceramic guy pointed out that a bit of white is starting to show on the ridges of the fenders (I can't really see it) and said one of these days they'll need painting. I was a little shocked but he said "That's Toyota paint for you."

Never heard of Toyota paint being bad. But I'd expect paint guys to know the most. EXCEPT, it's actually Subaru paint. So

to be fair i heard paint being somewhat of an issue with Subaru, and not Toyota.
So might be a subaru thing... plus black shows everything regardless of how well its kept lol. |

Subaru clear/paint isn't thick but I wouldn't say it's thin at least by modern standards. I'd be curious to see what your detailer is seeing. Being low and having soft paint can definitely cause sandblasting effect where debris would regularly hit paint.
Most twins I've measured are in the 120-140 micron range which is not amazing but enough paint. My car is around 120 which makes sense since I've done two light polishes on it in its lifetime prepping for coatings. |

It is black first off..you have no idea how poorly previous owner took care of it. Paint has changed over the decades obviously, in particular with clear coats. My GR Corolla' black paint is thicker than the black on the twins.
This guy paid half a million and got a pretty lame paint job from Ferrari so sounds like no matter how much you pay, you're going to be disappointed. Life is fleeting anyways. If you want things to last, better vacuum seal it and hope the aliens don't destroy earth. |
