Hey you know what I just remembered, since the FA20 has horrible low end torque, and a higher revving FA20 would have even worse low end torque, a mild hybrid system would add a whole crapton of torque to the 0-3000rpm range and make it a frighteningly fast car! Whatever Subaru's upcoming mild hybrid system is, I hope it uses less batteries (hopefully ultracap supplementing) than its competitors, because according to an EPA study the battery pack is responsible for >50% of the total hybrid system cost.

It would be really funny if they released a BRZ like that (hell, maybe even throw in an electric turbo), it would totally show Honda how to properly make a "sport hybrid".

Subaru I hear is also cooking up "electric turbo" tech, which could give an NA engine ~5% more top end power for like 15 pounds of weight max (but it would allow a less restrictive and lighter muffler)...since when did Subaru engine tech become so advanced?

Not unless they completely re-gear it. Redline shifts put the rpm at no less than 4500 rpm, right where the flat 90%+ torque line starts. Appropriate (hard) launches bypass the low-rpm range in first, too.

It would make for nicer city driving and city economy.

On, the er... off topic.

I hear that Xena, in Spartacus, has her titties out, but no sprinkles.

Yea, but people like SUB are always complaining about revving and stuff, and the truth is most people are probably like that, they expect most of the power down low without having to launch or anything.

I added a post about this in the Powerband Revealed thread a few days ago, dealing with what I feel will be the non-issue of the 'dip'. At ~3500 rpm shifting the rpm drop and shiftpoint basically straddles the low rpm torque 'peak' which looks very close to the 151 absolute peak (depending on dyno accuracy). It will probably feel quite strong even when not on it.

It will only come into play, as Levi mentioned, if it's driven like a turbo or large displacement motor. The gears look set up so you can shift around the dip.

I know, but the point is that most people are too lazy to shift or have something against revving higher on the street. Appeasing those people will get better reviews for the car.

So does setting up a car to do very well on EPA tests, real world be damned. Doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

Education, not appeasement!

My Poli Sci class voted to watch the basketball game on the projector instead of the normal lecture. After we had a split vote last week to take a quiz early that passed by 2 votes.

The vote was unanimous.
Welcome to Kentucky.

You're lucky its basketball, some of my classes back in the day did that when the Sox were playing and I was like I'd rather do work then watch the Red Sox.
