Thanks, I used to argue online but then I thought what's the point. Feels much fuzzier inside when you're able to find at least some common ground. And yes, the 911 is a great example

This is the most ridiculous statement anyone made in this whole thread. You obviously know little about high performance cars. You basically just stated that all supercars are muscle cars and can not be driven with finesse. Everything in your statement is so wrong, its embarrassing.

Asking for more power is not taboo. You mistake our explaining why we feel it won't get more power for us saying it shouldn't. Modding the car for more power is NOT the same as the manufacturer being able to do the same thing. All emissions, mileage and even crash requirements go out the window when you mod your car. The manufacturers do not have the luxury of ignoring these requirements.

You will not get considerable or even moderate power increases with only a $3K price hike. Any increase in power will require upgrades to other parts. Again it doesn't matter that people have increased power without doing all the upgrades since the manufacturer can't ignore the need.

I have literally no doubt in my mind they could have made that engine work, but Subaru had to do Subaru things.
Subaru didn't "have to do things" they were specifically requested by Toyota. In fact Toyota pretty much forced them into the project. If you are such and engineering wizard that you have no doubt as to what can be done you should be working for Toyota. Let me guess you are actually in IT someplace though.

By old school standards the Miata is the very definition of a sports car.

Anybody that disagrees with your ideas is not "real"?
I get annoyed at people that only focus on HP and try to convince everybody that it means everything. It is only one part of a puzzle and not even the most important one really.

If I remember correctly, at no point did I state is was the most important thing for a sports car. In fact, I said it was just one part, along with handling.

Actually Tcoat, the person was trying to tell me HP means absolutely nothing to a sports car. I even stated that the reason it wont get it is because of cost not because it would not make a better sports car.

Here is my Quote exactly "Even the people who say the car does not need anymore, realize it does not have more because of cost. Not because it wouldn't make a better sports car.."

Friend, you gotta wait for the Tokyo motor Show to see if we'll see anything. I myself can't wait for it to happen (26/10/2019) as I feel some of the big names are going to be dropping some big stuff this year... I hope.
