I spent several months taking 14Kilos out of the Tiptronic trans in this car...for a very significant price, (time and labor)

What about it? The way it drives (which is exquisite), or the way it looks (which is awful)?

That rear end just ruins the whole car

At least pull a picture of one in the wild...

It's not so bad, it won't go down in the history books as anything special but it is one helluva car.

Edit: @SkullWorks How often is that thing inspected for cracks? Reminds me of the issues they had with the Z8...

I'm not even a Porschephile and I understand the different chassis codes. It's not all that hard.

I've seen a couple flame shooting 600whp 930s running around Long Island that are just batty.

Any of the demo cars you see reviewed are all fully optioned and in the $500k range. I might've been off a bit with my original statement, but it doesn't change the fact that they're on average about double what a new GT2RS costs.

Luckily the friendly people at Ruf come to the rescue

http://www.ruf-automobile.de/index.php?id=88

They'll also do basic 911 engine swaps into a boxster/cayman without all the other Ruf frills.

When the Cayman was first released one of the big magazines did a review of one with a 911 C4S engine swapped in and came to the exact same conclusion you just said. It's how the car SHOULD have come, but it would destroy 911 sales.

I'll add a caveat in there: the car is amazing with either the 2.7 or 3.4 as is, I just think the 3.8 400hp engine from the 911s should be an option as well. It could also be incredible with the 3.8 475hp engine from the GT3 (Cayman GT3? Yes please...). They could leave the current engines as lower priced options, but add in the higher powered ones to better fill out the high end of the model line. As you said, it'll probably never happen, but I can dream, right...

Couldn't agree more! If there was no 911, there would be no complaints about the Cayman/Boxster powertrains, but since the 911 engine is available it just teases people with the possibilities.

A Cayman GT3 would be amazing, engine in the right place + proper hp levels = weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Did you read that Jalopnik link? In the article they say that the highest powered variant starts at $300k.

"the price tag still stuns. Starting in the $300,000 range,"

Not to mention the rest of the links on the page target starting prices between $190k-$300k

Just because you can buy a Boxster that costs $120k doesn't mean that the Boxster costs $120k, or for a more relevant example, I believe someone on here paid $40k for their FRS...

The picture you posted looks like a rendering to me, where's the light on the trunk and right side of the vehicle coming from? What city is that supposed to be? Why does the glass on the left have no reflection despite the setting sun behind the shot? At best it's staged and edited promo shot, they always look less garish in reality than the shots Porsche decided to publish.

Polarizing filters, remote flashes and photoshop can totally change the lighting of a scene. A good polarizing filter will get rid of all, or most, reflections without needing software at all.

That said, I didn't look at the picture in question, just a general comment.
