Thanks to all involved for the testing to get the trunk door speaker amplifier functioning with the 2020 build configuration! Cannot wait to hear the difference with intended power and low-pass filter.
To clarify the wires of the antenna harness, is the smaller wire the antenna turn-on and the larger the radio signal? After cutting/de-pinning the unused brown amplifier turn-on wire, it should be spliced to the antenna turn-on wire (referring to oddrelic’s post #132 it is spliced to the smaller antenna wire).

For further clarification, the larger "wire" as you referred to it is actually the antenna CABLE. Don't tap into that. Tap into the small wire next to it in the plug. See these two pictures here with the red arrow pointing to the wire in question. Tap the wire in the below picture indicated by the red arrow into the wire in the above picture AFTER you de-pin it from the ten-pin plug, |

@Tcoat
I stand by what I say. I've just ordered all of the necessary radio harness and antenna adapter parts to build you a Model Year 19+ 86 Harmon Base Audio Head Unit / Factory Door Speaker Amplifier Retainer Package for your system. No wires will have to be cut, de-pinned or tapped into by you or your installer, it will be designed to be a simple plug-and-play installation. When I'm finished building it, I will gladly send it to you so that you'll have it to install........as soon as your factory warranty is up in about 4 more years. ![]() ......Or you can just install it or have it installed when you receive it. It won't take but 15 to 20 minutes with the right tools available. PM me your address so that I can ship it to you when it's ready. I'll even include detailed instructions in paper form to ship along with it. You have my assurance that it will work properly in your Hakone Edition. On a side note: One of the other members here will have to test for, and build a harness to get the back up camera to display on the head unit for you, since I don't have any of those features in my car. I invite anyone else here who has this Harmon Base Audio Head unit, and who has the experience and skills to test for and build a plug-and-play backup camera integration harness for Mr. Tcoat to please do so. I'm sure he will be grateful. |

LOL Since I actually drive my car the warranty will be up (based on mileage) before the end of this year. Since no wires will be cut I will install as soon as I can. The camera I can get used to since I don't rely on it anyway.

I'll be looking forward to a report on the installation of the plug-and-play harness kit.
As soon as I can overcome my fear of mangling the dash trying to remove the head unit, I may inquire about the possibility of purchasing a copy of the harness for myself. I'll live with the back up camera the way it is for now. Eventually I may even get used to it. |

I wouldn't presume that FR-S2GT86 wants to build harnesses for anybody else besides Tcoat, but maybe he'll be kind enough to share a parts list and photo? Thinking about the project it'll be a little tedious but really not all that difficult (everything goes straight across except for one wire).
In any case, thanks for running all this down for us!

I used to know my way around car audio, back before they started putting computers in everything. A nice wiring diagram and a parts list, along with some courage, may be all I need.

@Tcoat is getting the first one, no charge just because he was the loudest when it came to complaining about how much his system sucked, and I just wanted to challenge myself to see if I could solve his issue for him. I don't have a problem building some of these harnesses and sending them out, but I'll only be soldering and heat shrinking his. I'm not doing this for profit so if you guys want to pay for the parts and shipping, I will gladly put them together with crimp caps and move the pins into the correct plug positions for you before sending them out. If you wish, you can always cut the crimp caps off and solder and heat shrink them yourselves. If you guys would rather me just post a list of parts, some good pictures and some step-by-step instructions, I can do that also. I would of course start a completely new how-to thread if I do. |

I vote pictures and step-by-steps. ![]() Most of it seems pretty straight forward minus tapping the proper switched 12v source.

Parts list, pictures and step-by-step it is. I'll write up a how-to in the "DIY Guides" section, post it there and if anyone wants to make an accompanying video, they can add it in that thread. I'll post a link to it here in this thread when it's ready. I'm not expecting all of the parts to arrive until this coming Monday, so it will be some time next week. |

The inexpensive version of the DIY has just been completed in that section as the second post. Here is a link to that thread:
https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...13#post3446013 Please note however, that I am also working on the tutorial on how to build the plug-and-play harness, which is what you see in the picture for that first post. Stay tuned..... |

Thanks to everyone involved in those tests ! I've switched my amp feed to the antenna since like I mentioned, on some occasion the acc drop was a bit faster than the radio tuning off and i could hear a quick shot of non amplified audio when turning my key off.

I preface this with I have not taken apart my dash yet, but stumbled across while digging into whether the front dash and door speakers are wired in parallel or series and how the rear amp jumper might impact impedance versus using the amp.
If this unused connector still exists in the 2020's, it might minimize the adapter harness FR-S2GT86 is making for the no-cut factory wire/adapter harness solution since the antenna adapters would no longer be needed. Possibly D29 Option Connector in the wiring image below? Given that the antenna turn-on and amp turn-on are energized when the vehicle is in ACC or ON and whether the head unit is manually on or off versus being controlled by the head unit (referring to FR-S2GT86's post #140) this might be another source to tap the amp turn-on into instead of the antenna turn-on. Maybe oddrelic or FR-S2GT86 could test the functionality of this? .
