From what ive seen since this fiasco has started... we still dont have solid evidence that the oil pan rtv is the main cause of engine failure.
We can complain all we want, but Subaru(and Toyota) wont do anything until they have actual failed engines in their hands.. and not just a handful. These motors have to be blowing left and right... similar to the valve spring recall and it's whole situation of motors blowing left and right due to techs over-applying sealant on the timing chain cover. that being said.. there are tons of brz/gr86 that have A LOT of miles with no issues on em. someone posted their brz with 50k miles already and claims he hasnt had issues. im currently waiting to see if he ever got his car checked for RTV or not. |

It has been discussed over and over that the sealant in the pickup alone is not likely to be the issue. Of the failures that we have details (about 8) all were on a track and at least 3 had records of overrev. At this point it would appear to be much ado about nothing.

Yep.
RTV poses no issue, the government auto safety body forms go to /dev/null, and we should all just understand that the auto manufacturers have our best interests at heart and will sort stuff out without factoring in its reputation or sales of its vehicles. There, that better? Can I join your club now? m|np |

From silicone in the pickup? Nah. Higher oil temps would only improve flow through a clog or partial clog, and any decent synthetic (even a 0w-20) is going to have proper lubrication at higher temps. Although, at some point if temps are excessive: 1) you'd see it on the OEM gauge, and 2) the ECU would likely start pulling power to keep things safe. Unlike the oil pressure switch, the oil temp switch does interact with the ECU.

They made a booboo with some of the production cars. This almost never happens...2013 anyone? People still drive them today without the recall.
Better than catching fire like some other brands ![]() I'd be concerned if I bought one but I'd either unload it or keep it and beat on it. Either way, life goes on. |
