I almost jumped earlier this year when I saw last year, base GT's for under $30k. Mustang's, outside of things like the GT350/500 or maybe now the Bullitt are always able to be purchased under MSRP.

We nearly went and got my fiance a last year's Ecoboost because it was being advertised at $10k off MSRP.

Nissan's R&D has been paid off on this chassis for a while let's be honest. They shoehorn in an engine which didn't take a lot of effort redo panels that have same attachement points. They are milking this platform like Chrysler with the Challenger. But why not right!?

The weight, price, and power/features of the Z are all rumors. If the Z really did start at $35K, I suspect it will be a base car without upgraded things like wheels, brakes, technology, LSD, etc. My guess is the car that most people will want will be $45K ish range and maybe higher.

Personally, I can’t stand the front end based on the pictures I’ve seen. Hoping the final production car is improved.

Having said that most of the Nissan dealers near me are terrible. They basically just try to bring in people with bad or no credit.

As for me, I'd prefer getting a base model and modifying it according to my preferences. I seriously doubt that any Z would come without LSD, did any 350/370 have an open diff? If so, it's not a big deal since an aftermarket clutch type LSD costs around $1500 and is a much better option than stock LSD. Same with suspension, wheels, etc. Base model doesn't have all the unnecessary bells and whistles which are overpriced af.

350z Base had an open diff, so did the 370z.

The 370z base and touring did not have an LSD. The sport and Nismo offer a vicious LSD that tended to have heat issues. People who track the car typically went aftermarket but Nismo as it had better suspension, cooling, etc. Cooling was another issue with the 370z on track.

An aftermarket diff, suspension and oil cooler would be a far better option and way cheaper than higher trims.

That’s fine for people who like to mod their car and have barebones cars with little to no creature comforts. But most buyers like technology and most buyers don’t modify their brand new car because they want a warranty while they make payments to the bank.

Absolutely!

We should be thrilled that there will be two sports cars (three if you count the Miata) available to pick from. In a time when interest in sports cars is dwindling, and even the (non-N) Hyundai Veloster is being discontinued because there isn't enough demand for a sporty hatchback

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...-discontinued/

we're lucky that both the BRZ and Z will be available. Neither one is 'right' or 'wrong'. Chocolate and vanilla, just different flavors of the same idea for individual preferences.

We're moving towards a more sterile, soulless, anodyne future of EVs (regardless of how much sense they may or may not actually make). Yes, the world will hopefully someday be cleaner as a result, but it will also (IMHO) be a lot more boring. We're living in the last days of the shift-for-yourself internal combustion engine sports car. Enjoy them while we can. Once they're gone, they won't be back.

I didn’t forget it. I just don’t count it because it’s only available with an automatic transmission.

I’m hopelessly old-skool. If it’s not a manual transmission, it’s not a *true* sports car.

I don't miss a manual transmission one bit, after driving nothing but manual for about 30 years. To each their own! Agreed - choices are good to have.
I drive my paddle shifter cars in manual when in the canyons as I still like having the option to shift when I want, and leave them on auto in traffic.

It’s sad that only Japan is giving us affordable RWD manual options.

Where is the Solstice/Sky? Where is the BMW Z2 that was rumored almost 10 years ago? The cheapest non-Japanese offering is the Cayman at 60K.
