Yeah, although a thread of dealers who are charging crazy markups can still be mentioned, but maybe in another thread? If nothing else it saves people the time of bothering to call them. Not that I'm looking for a dealer but if I were in his area his post would have saved me the effort of contacting them.

I was told by a saleman markup is ok. I suddenly walked out without even saying anything.

I agree, a markup thread would probably be a good idea to save people some time. I just wanted to be clear that I don't want to lump in dealers that are being straight forward with their pricing. Charge what you want, just don't lie to us, we're not that stupid (well most of us right? )

It is. It is a perfectly honest, legal business decision. MSRP is literally just a suggestion. However, whether or not it's a good business decision or not depends on whether or not those cars get sold at that price. Some people aren't as savvy as you or I. Some people must have the newest thing right NOW, price be damned.

Yeah, I know some people just like to have what others don't for a while. In the case, I went to Lexus dealer with my uncle to get RX. It's a freaking 3 years old design and they want to charge 2000 over MSRP. Saleman said, markup is the profit for the dealer and they only make 2000 on that car. I walked out without saying anything, but I told my uncle not to get the car just yet. The next day, my uncle got that car for MSRP +2000. I facepalmed. He should have made a good use of his Costco membership.

Question: How often do dealers sell cars at $xxx over invoice? Or is this something that we all should arm ourselves with when we go in to negotiate? Does it ever really happen? I always pictured a good deal being : msrp+some options+warranty and/or maintenance or something.

<<First new car purchase.

Damn. At least wait for one of their promotion events. December to Remember is a great one.

Every cent over invoice is profit. MSRP is usually a few grand over invoice. I'd have warned your uncle at least that the dealer was pulling his leg.

I warned him twice, but he's one of those people who wanted it NOW. I already sent an email to internet sale manager to find out if I could get a deal for him, but 9am in the morning ( I hadn't woken up yet), he came to my house and showed me and my dad the new car *tada*

Im not really upset about the msrp. Just that they refused to put in my order because I spoke with another dealer. I haven't asked about my deposit yet...

Just saw this on the NASIOC BRZ thread:

"I have mentioned this before, but I thought I'd mention it again since price is being discussed. Gerald Subaru in the Chicagoland area told me they are charging 3k over sticker and justified it by saying other dealers are charging 5k over sticker. The salesman didn't understand why I laughed so hard when he couldn't tell me what the msrp was, just that whatever it is the final price will be +3k. I can see paying sticker for a new model in its first year with a limited production run, but a 10%+ premium over msrp? Yea right..."

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...postcount=5702

Might be time to Gerald to the list.

Nope, they don't meet the criteria. $3k is ridiculous though.

Got to give them credit for being upfront, I suppose...? I should have read your criteria bit more carefully.

Non refundable deposit? Mark ups are OK because that is a basic of capitalism? These delaers must be living in their short lived delusions and the potential buyers must be loaded or desparate to have this car.

Just know this. These people are not representative of normal people.
