2020 86 Audio Replacement?

Now that we have solved the missing connector issue on the 2020 86's so that the door speakers work, we know the limitations of this Harmon system. Its quality is poor and it is incompatible with the woofer AMP in the trunk.
  1. Has anyone tried replacing the stock 2020 headunit?
  2. If so? With what?
  3. What installation issues did you have?
  4. Can one use the stock amplifier?
  5. Do you have to rewire the USB port?

TIA - Doug

I started writing a detailed description of my experience with replacing the HU in my 2020 86GT with a Kenwood DDX6706S, adding a front camera, replacing the rear camera, and doing a few other things. I should set aside time to finish it.

Your questions:

What installation issues did you have?
None that weren't pretty standard for the task. I used the Maestro RR and SU2 harness, flashed the RR to the 2019 86 firmware (and have had no problems since), and used the options connector behind the HU for power for both cameras and the HU antennae connection.

Can one use the stock amplifier?
That's what I did. Reconnect the amp in the trunk (if it's been disconnected), plug in a 15A fuse in the driver's kick panel fuse box (slot 16), and that's it. NOTE: The SU2 is wired correctly for the amp right out of the box. In my 2020, amp turn-on goes out through pin 9 of the D14 (10-pin) connector, not through D12 (the 28-pin connector). The SU2 routes the signal correctly without requiring repinning or anything similar.

Do you have to rewire the USB port?
I replaced the port itself because I wanted an active AUX input. On Amazon I found a replacement for the original (pre-Harmon), fully functioning USB+AUX port (Toyota part #86190-0R010). Amazon now lists the part as unavailable, but it might still be available somewhere else.
