Question Quoted $3,000 to install and tune a SC?

I am near Seattle, WA and Drive Auto in Everett (quality shop) quoted me $3k to install and tune an Edelbrock SC; $2k for install; $1k for tune...this seems steep? I wanted to go with Drift Auto in Auburn, but they look to be mostly tuning.

Is this a reasonable amount? Should I just try to install it myself and get a Delicious tune?

What's their hourly rate?
2k is at least 15 hours labor. I recall watching the install on the Edelbrock kit. 15 hours seems like a lot to me.

Titan has a YT install video and it took them 8 hours. Give it a look if you haven't seen it.

You rock! Just called the shop and said "looking around on forums and talking to people, it should take about 8-9 hours." He is going to get a real quote and send it to me then we can "finalize it."

$2,500 would be fine. $3k is a little "come on, man."

Really appreciate the help!

Looks to be 8-10 hours if you're unfamiliar with the kit. 1k for a tune is pricey unless that's tune and license?

I'd expect an in house tune to be closer to the $500 range so I'm seeing 2k tops. 3k sounds pricey.

install it yourself, I did mine and it was really simple. the instructions are great, and there is a video on youtube from Titan Motorsports installing one. if you can swing a hammer you should be able to do it. As for tuning...1K is outrageous! first off it comes with a tune. Its not the best, but it works. and getting a protune shouldnt be more than 600 bucks.

Problem is I have an UEL header that will not work with the supplied tune...

I could do it myself and just get a base tune with Delicious, since they already tuned my car.

Already own an ecutek license and cable

The carb tune also doesn't work on the 2017+ cars unless they updated something since I last looked.

Okay, that is good to know. I'll pay to have it done right, but that is more from the tune, imo. The installation cost is what's whack

3k for an install like this seems alot, usually its like 1.5-2k depending on the shop and kit. 1k is on the cheap side for dyno tunes on forced induction.

Is it a dyno tune or they just putting in whatever tune that came with the kit? if theyre just putting in a OTS tune from edelbrock then they shouldn't even charge you.

Call Bob at @Drift-Office in Auburn. I'm pretty sure they'll do the install and tune. I was there last month and I talked to him about supercharging and gave me the impression he could install and tune.

Link to threads below also indicate he has the experience and is willing.

I left my car with Bob at his office, and he told me it would be done in two weeks. (He was also working with an Edelbrock supercharger install and tune)

Bob has unfortunately passed, and DO is temporarily closed.

May he rest in peace.
