Yea I wish they listed the Tyre weight in the description but they don’t. $300 difference between the XL and regular 91W(more expensive) I’ll have a look around and ask the guy when I go in

If there price gap is that much for the same tire/size get the regular variant.

Pilot Sport 4S (same tire softer compound?) with the 94Y rating is only 21 lb. in 225/45-17, as light as a 91W-rated Continental ExtremeContact Sport, lighter than other 225/45-17 "Max Performance" tires I'm looking at on Tire Rack.

fwiw the number is the load rating, letter is speed rating. Neither is really any issue for tires for our lightweight and slow cars!

What I’m saying though is the regular variant costs MORE than the ‘Extra Load’ Higher speed rating variant would think it would be the other way around

Yea, just wasn’t sure whether going with the Tyre with the higher speed/ weight rating (because it’s cheaper) was going to have negative effects if they’re intended for SUVs. Eg the Tyre is heavier than the regular size because it’s more reinforced to accomodate the extra load

215 will be stretched but will have better gearing than a 225. I see it as a compromise or a sacrifice. Do you want better gearing and slightly lighter or more grip and a little heavier?

Difference of gearing of 1.4% for 215 vs 225? Probably won't be noticeable by butt dyno. How harsh ride is or how sharp steering is and how much one paid for tires, probably will be more noticeable

Ended up going 225 with the 94y load rating.
Initial impressions is that turning is a lot stiffer and requires more input from me to turn the wheel. Drove in the wet and that was probably the first time I’ve accelerated at a moderate speed without the traction light going off.
At low speeds the car feels a little sluggish, takes more throttle to get the car going. Haven’t had too many opportunities to test out acceleration but once I start moving I think it’s a little faster. I’m not sure how to describe it- car feels like it’s going slower but I’m reaching the speed limit faster. Definitely more traction which is good but I can’t really rev it up as much without trying to speed since it’s just starts gripping straight away


With that said I am happy with how they look, the thicker and blockier look of the PS4's fill in my wheel gap a little more than my old tyres did (though i'm stock suspension). And feel like I got a good price, $750 AUD for the 4 tyres, fitting and alignment with another free alignment check up in 3 months
