Look at the positive: One less person on the road with a FRS/BRZ, exclusivity makes the heart grow fonder

So what that it is slow. It is a hell of a lot of fun. Plus means I will get less speeding tickets *knock on wood*

I test drove the manual and it felt quick enough for me. To me it's the overall package. It has a perfect clutch and gearbox for my needs, great visibility and driving position, a trunk and back seats, it looks great and I can buy it NEW for 25k msrp. I don't drag race, I drive like a normal human being but I like that experience to be on a very well designed car. That is the fr-s

Agreed.

I respect the OP's opinion about this car's performance, but the statement, "I still think that buying this car with an auto tranny is a SIN and you should be ashamed for buying such car", has no merit. It is a complete disregard for the feelings of others. It is fine to be passionate about manual transmissions, but you lost all credibility when you disrespected other people's decisions. The OP also drove a DSG GTI, so I am surprised at those remarks.

A test-drive is not enough to form an opinion.

After test-driving dozens of cars recently, I've come to the conclusion that a test drive is only marginally useful. You get only an initial "sense" of the car, but you have to balance that against your unfamiliarity of the controls, the limited duration of the test drive and the inconvenience of being accompanied.

So all I can say to the poster, is that a test-drive gives you the basis for a few observations - but not enough to form an opinion. I have no choice but to disregard it.

Pretty glad the guy stepped up and gave his review. Outside of the derailment about automatic drivers it was very straightforward and respectable.

He laid out what his preferences were, what he likes to feel while driving.

If it weren't for different people's taste in cars, we wouldn't have nearly as many to choose from...hell, we may not even be discussing this car if it weren't for people clearly expressing their preferences and tastes.

Thanks for the review, do try a manual and see what you think as I imagine it will give you more of the seat of your pants feel that you seem to enjoy. The auto only really gets there in sport mode and once you get past 5k rpm, after that it's a joy.

I disagree. It's not really slow. Go test drive an auto Yaris or a Versa, or the new CR-Z with the CVT. Maybe it's slower than a lot of other cars out there, but I disagree that it's a "really slow" car.

I think the people that call this car a really slow car haven't ever experienced the ownership of an actual really slow car.

This part is definitely something that sets many of us apart when choosing a car. I found that a fast car that feels slow (from my perspective) is a well setup and balanced vehicle. The goal for many racers is being comfortable with a specific level of speed and setting up a vehicle that caters to the drivers driving style. To a car that feels fast (especially when its not fast) means that my body doesn't jive well with the characteristics of a vehicle.

I'd hate to bring this example up....but in Initial D....(oh god here it comes)....early in the first season when Takumi is going full throttle into a corner with a passenger. Takumi is yawning and putting his arm up on the door cards nonchalantly, while experiencing very high G forces and speeds, while his passenger is freaking out.

So how can someone be so calm and composed in that situation? Because Takumi has a balanced machine that caters to his driving style, and is comfortable at high speeds. And in my experience this comfortability kinda leads to a sort of dull moment.
Yes.

If I wanted a vehicle that FEELS fast rather than is fast I'd never have traded in my Jeep wrangler. 80 MPH in the jeep is scary! Especially in thick traffic with heavy winds.

You haven't lived until you've done that in a vehicle where your ass is 30 feet above two live axles as opposed to 13 inches off the ashpalt.

I'd like to nominate the OP for Troll of the Month. If the award doesn't exist, can we create one?

Some people have a skewed version of slow. This car is plenty quick. I've driven both the AT and MT and as long as you keep them in the revs, they are a blast.

The horsepower wars have ruined cars, IMO. Too many people caring more about the spec sheet than the driving experience.
