DIY-TANABE MEDALION TOURING CATBACK INSTALL
This is to help anyone looking to install a TANABE MEDALION TOURING CATBACK EXHAUST on their FR-S / BRZ. Will be going thru a simple DIY instruction on how to remove your oem catback and installing your brand new exhaust!!
Piping is 60mm with a 100mm tip!!! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heQmO4QuPYY&feature=plcp"]fr-s tanabe medalion touring catback with tanabe front pipe - YouTube[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82GyYR31cQU&feature=plcp"]Fr-s tanabe medalion catback / tanabe front pipe - YouTube[/ame] ***REMINDER*** My fr-s already had the Tanabe 60mm front-pipe installed prior to this installation so the oem front pipe will not be shown in this install. Here is a picture of how the exhaust will come. part number T70166 Inside box are : -midpipe -muffler -14mm bolts x 2 (to be used between mid-pipe and muffler) -Gasket (to be used between mid-pipe and muffler) -a small information paper regarding your new exhaust. Installation time- aprox 1hour and 45minutes..... (jacking up the the car with jack stands on a lowered vehicle takes time, as we all know hehe) Tools: The tools listed / showed below are needed for this installation. -Jack -jack stands or lift. - rachet -14mm socket -12mm open wrench or 12 mm socket -WD-40 -Screwdriver INSTRUCTIONS: Once you have the car lifted on jack stands safely, go under the car and you will see where the front of the mid-pipe and front pipe is connected. To disconnect these two parts you will find two 14mm bolts and 12mm nuts holding them together. Unbolt them by using the 14mm socket and 12mm open wrench. *** the bolts are connected with a spring but don't worry these having tension because they wont** Next, lets move to the muffler so we can disconnect it from the back end of the mid-pipe. The muffler is hooked on by 4 rubber hangers and two 14mm bolts. You will again need your handy dandy 14mm socket. After unbolting, you can now take off the four rubber hangers. This is where my WD-40 came into work. I sprayed a very small amount of WD-40 where the rubber was hanging from the hangerr...and...wallaaaa! it slips right off!! JUST BE CAREFUL!! The Muffler is pretty heavy. (especially when your laying down). Now since you got the muffler out of the way, you can take off the mid-pipe by taking it off its 1 hanger. (again you can use the WD-40 if needed). *A donut shaped rubber part MIGHT come off between the front pipe and mid-pipe but keep that since that will be used still for the new exhaust.* Now set those to the side and stand back as you see its comparison with your new TANABE MEDALION TOURING EXHAUST!! Install is just the reversal of what we just did. 1. Install the Tanabe muffler by attaching it to the OEM rubber hangers, then on to the metal hangers on the car.flat head screwdriver might help to get the rubber hanger on ther car. 2. Hook the Tanabe midpipe on to the rubber hanger, then on to the hanger on the car. *if the donut shaped rubber part came off earlier, put it back between the mid-pipe and front-pipe* 3. Now bolt the mid-pipe and front pipe together with the oem 14mm bolt, 12mm nut and spring. 4. Bolt together the back end of the mid-pipe and muffler with the included new 14mm bolts from Tanabe along with the new GASKET. 5. Wipe your TANABE EXHAUST once on the car since you might have put some grease, finger prints etc. Keep that thing SHINNYYYY!!! This install didn't take much time like i said earlier. Just jacking up the car took a while since the car was too low. Other than that its one of the easiest install I did. extra!!! a clip of just the front pipe!!!! catback not connected yet!!! just for FUNNN! haha [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61jAIbS6lG8&feature=plcp"]Fr-s no catback---- tanabe front pipe only - YouTube[/ame] Last edited by kinryu; 12-13-2012 at 02:46 AM. |

I think your washer is on the wrong side. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@kinryu odd question but do you recall if the box would have fit inside the FRS?

I doubt it can fit inside the FRS without taking out from box. I had it in my tsx and it barely went across. Can always take it out and still take the box with you

No resonator on this but the exhaust is made to be under 93db so its not loud actually . its a very good exhaust for being conservative but also a little louder than stock when you push it. Still very good sound
