If You’ve Got a New Car, It’s a Data Privacy Nightmare

https://gizmodo.com/mozilla-new-cars...ort-1850805416

"Mozilla found brands including BMW, Ford, Toyota, Tesla, and Subaru collect data about drivers including race, facial expressions, weight, health information, and where you drive. Some of the cars tested collected data you wouldn’t expect your car to know about, including details about sexual activity, race, and immigration status, according to Mozilla."

"Questions around consent are essentially a joke as well. Subaru, for example, says that by being a passenger in the car, you are considered a “user” who has given the company consent to harvest information about you. Mozilla said a number of car brands say it’s the drivers responsibility to let passengers know about their car’s privacy policies"

Duh. Also cellphones that you have with you or other people have with them even when you aren't in a car.

Which begs the question, what year did sufficient connectivity become part of the 86 platform? 2017 refresh? 2022 2nd coming, or sooner?

I got around to reading the articles. It's actually not the cars, its the apps that connects to the car.

Might want to read it again. They draw information from connected devices, but also from in car mics, cameras and other sensors..

I recommend checking out the articles in the privacy not included project. At least for cars that don't have built in data. OnStar for example has it's own connection.

Privacy is a joke these days. Good luck trying to live in a faraday cage with a tin foil hat with analog products. They know everything.

Back in the day, that would have bothered me. However, today, I don't care who knows how many times I go to the doctors offices, dentist, pharmacy or to Walmart -

Seen the documentary on Cambridge Analytica? Scary stuff. It really shows the power of information and misinformation at controlling people, especially finding the people that are most likely to be controlled and what type of misinformation can be used to manipulate them like what will they fall for. This is big business, especially in the US, and the volume of data that is being captured is exponentially rising.

2020 is when the N/A models got apple carplay/android auto support.
BRZ might have been a year or 2 earlier.

But that's the extent of connectivity you got with the car.

Audio was only Bluetooth or USB, but those have been around since i think 2014 (in a not-shit implementation)
Older years and other markets would have had a nav system available....but i dont think that really counts as connectivity.

Lets just put it this way. If you can connect to the internet in any way, you are already compromised.
