The KERS assist maybe far fetched for this next model but if they delay it long enough perhaps a solid state battery assist.

I was talking about modern hatches in general i.e. Civic Type R. I've never mentioned a Golf or anything of the sort. I want it tiny as an EK9. I don't know what that is relative to Golfs, nor do I care about Golfs.

Edit: I honestly think this is the first time I thought about or typed "Golf".

Edit2: wait.. Golfs are GTis, right? or is one thicker than the other?

Edit3: I can't believe I'm thinking about Golfs. Sorry don't even respond. Forget my comments. Modern hatches are just right. Perfect size!!!!

The value went through the roof in the early 80s (not long after I sold it) when the lowrider fad hit the area.
For all you know someone might have 'donked it.

That's so true - a modern Jetta is as large as an older Passat; a modern 3 series as large as an older 5 series. Only until a few years ago every generation was bigger and heavier than the last. And now only a handful of cars are getting smaller and lighter with a new generation (the MX-5 is the best example, especially for a lightweight sports car - the NB is heavier by 220 lbs than the NA, the NC is heavier by 100 lbs than the NB, but the ND is lighter by 118 lbs than the NC, making it slightly lighter than the NB).

Why? A hybrid system with regen braking is a KERS system. The energy storage method is kind of irrelevant. In F1 batteries, supercapacitors, and flywheels have been used for KERS.

I was thinking KERS simply described an electric motor assist with energy on tap via large capacitors.

By now maybe. The guy that bought it had one with a good frame and interior but smashed up body. He was taking it all back to stock.

I would love love love love, to have a liftback 86. Something along the lines of Integra's/RX-7's.

As handy as it would be you will never see it in these. If you do they will need to sacrifice rigidity or add weight to get it there.

It's just a pipe dream. I'm currently spoiled by the hatch on my car.

You have to look at that rear to use it so there is still compromise.

I always liked Liftback/Hatchback/5 door alternatives.
I Had 2 2 door Hatchy’s & 1 5 door in 43 yrs. Very practical.
I really wanted to like the new CiVic R Hatchy but there was no real Handbrake available to compliment my winter FWD drifting style…

If the angle of the hatch does not increase the length too much I would not think that rigidity would be compromised. I always liked the CRX’s & 944’s on track… but I only had the Honda budget.

I like the term “super capacitors”. Maybe the new marketing badge to put on the trunk to replace “Turbo” which is so 80’ish! Reminds me too much of a Renault Fuego.

To add a generic opinion to this discussion to what has already been posted wonder if he has been reading up on here ?:

The best part of this review was the perceived molesting of the suede Alcantara seats...
