Toyota AU only just appointed an agency for the 86

Ha! Looks like they might only just be starting to look at marketing now. Must be pretty confident pre-orders are going to last them a while.

It's like Toyota AU haven't done this new car thing before. How are they still in business?

What kind of business do you run? Do you spend money advertising a product you don't have or can't deliver? How's that work for you?

I'm no Toyota fanboi, but they more about flogging wheels than anyone on here. Just look at the rubbish they been getting people to pay good money for over the past 20 years.

You make a good point. But you can still advertise for stuff that hasn't come yet. Movies, games, sports. They all have advertising before they are released. It just seems weird that they haven't got an official launch date, and therefore getting more people excited about it by doing a countdown.

I'm no marketing genius, but I'd have to agree with Franky. They can definitely create the hype prior to a product's release (perhaps they thought they already had enough). The best recent example is Diablo III release. Blizzard have been hyping this up for about 5 years, and when the release date came literally millions around the world sat and counted down the second when they could start playing. For those that actually play, you know that the execution could have gone MUCH better. =P But the idea was there...

Toyota (worldwide) has been hyping up this small FR sports car since they released FT86 concept in 2009.

the problem being a distributor is you can't gurantee 1) if you can priced this correctly for the local market and 2) when you will get stock to sell.

i think TMCA should have handle it better and they could have done more since they started taking pre-orders.
