No Magnusson Moss Warranty Act in Canada, eh?
That's a bummer. I'm pretty sure I could make the backup camera work on the radio like it should. My guess is all the oem harness is still there, but they unplugged the backup camera from oem harness and installed a new wiring to hook up on the rear view mirror.

Anyway everything is working perfectly in my car and I love this unit with the amp turn on

The MMW Act will not protect you if you altered the product. Cutting and rerouting wires is an alteration of the product.

We actually have a far better system to settle warranty disputes.

I buy new cars in part to have warranty coverage and am not going to throw it away so I can have some more bass from my speakers. I know that is an appalling attitude to many people on a car forum but that is the way I roll. Not going to give them any reason to say no if my HU just stops working.
Now... When the warranty is up then I don't care what I do with the car since now it is on me.

Yeah I understand that. In that way, even a plug and play harness could theoretically void the warranty on the radio if a problem do happen and they can link the problem to the harness.

A plug and play harness can be swapped back. Cut wires are cut forever!
I don't for one minute think my dealer would use such a thing against me but I would rather not find out the hard way.

Well the border reopened today so I may make a trip up that way in the near future.

Once we find out how it all sounds with the amplifier running, then we can figure out a way to permanently send an amp trigger signal to turn it on and off. My obvious choice as a possibility would be the antenna turn-on lead. But some of those antenna turn-on circuits will only power on when the source is the AM/FM tuner, so that will have to be tested, which wouldn't take more than a few minutes after the head unit is pulled.

If anybody wants to volunteer, PM me.

After receiving the test harness and the color printed instructions I was able to get the harness hooked up in less then 5 mins. I did have to find a fuse for my 2020 86 and once I installed the fuse the Amp received 12v with the ignition completely off. This is how an aftermarket amp works anyway. The test harness had me jump the 12v switch signal from the 12v hot power at the amp. This turns the amp on. At this current state the Amp is always ON. further testing and wiring will be required to allow the amp to be switched with the radio signal.

Audio Quality.

I listen to everything and tired to test different kinds of music during my 30 min test. My normal EQ setting for the amp bypass is Low +5 Mid 0 and High +1 or +2. This would deliver OK sound at any volume above 20 and while driving with the windows down above 25. as we all know its just ok...

With the Harness installed and the EQ zeroed out and volume at 20 it was night and day different. Sound was so much fuller. Mostly because the lows were now being completely filtered through the amp and the door speaker was just allowed to handle that range. Turning the EQ to +2 or +3 on the Lows was all it really needed and didn't really need to go past 24 on the volume to enjoy rich deep sound (as good as a stock system could sound). Raising the volume to 25 to 30 would start to distort the lows if the EQ was higher than +1 on the low band.

I plan to give further updates after a day or two of driving around and changing my music selection up.

Just sent you a PM back concerning the next test that I’d like for you to make.

2nd Audio Update!

Yesterday I spent some drive time with the test harness. Short answer, this is how it should have been from the factory. This will make our stock 2020 HU a worth while option and from my opinion only need to upgrade the HU if you want wireless Android auto or CarPlay. completely happy with the level of audio performance I am now getting.

Audio tested was NPR Talk radio in the am, just more enjoyable to listen to. fuller sound all over. In the PM i ran through my Pandora mix and just tired to jump all over the place. 90s rap was so much better, rock, alternative and grunge you could feel the bass on your legs and Techno from my kids Marshmello albums gave me goose bumps it was so much better.....

Wiring Update.

I started to look into finding a wire to power the amp from the back side of the headunit. I was asked to try the wire attached to the antenna. The wire has no power with the car off. After going to accessory on the key it had 12v and 13.1 with car running.

FM AM kept 13v, Bluetooth audio and USB drive audio kept 13v, Android Auto kept 13v.

After car was shut off, 12.5v was available for about 7 sec. I'm sure this is just due to slow power drain as the head unit shuts down. Once a load is placed on the wire it will drain faster.

So long story short. It seems to be hot with key on and not with key off in every mode.

stay tuned for future updates
