I think you can. I'm just working with minimal supplies too. This time around with the Chaser, I used a microfiber towel with regular toothpaste instead of a blue shop paper towel and toothpaste during the priming stages. I also laid the last coat of clear pretty thick (which is also why it caused a "drip" like finish on the hood since it wasn't dried horizontally). Then the usual wet sand and polish.

I think you should pick up a cheap kit from somewhere and give it a try. I'm sure you'll surprise yourself. If you really want to get fancy, use those extremely high grit (5000 to 12000) sand paper that I see many builders use. I don't really trust the Amazon ones since many of the reviews say they are no where near those grit ratings.

After I finish the Chaser, I may put the models on pause since I'll be working on my R32 (not really looking forward to paint correcting that since cleaning the interior already got my body aching).

Started putting the build models in the display cabinet I finally got and built.

Bottom will be the R32, R33, and R34. Above that will be the sedans (with the EVO6 being the oddball, non VIP). 2nd to top will be the Hakosuka and S15. And the top will be the R34 with the HD RB26, and the other R32.

Ah, stupid forum not keeping the pic in portrait.

Nah I will stick to my dirty old flat and semi gloss vehicles. Maybe if I ever get my hands on the 2017+ 86 kit and do it up as the Hakone. They are hard to come by and very costly though

Almost every horizontal and relatively flat surface in my house has models on it at this point.

Nope none hanging all sit on shelves.

A lot. I have a 13 to do the FRS some day. Need the later model to do the Hakone.

By the time I pay for exchange, shipping and duty a 17+ (Aoshima nd Tamiya both call it a 2016) would be pushing $120. Half of that is shipping since costs are outrageous to ship here for some reason. Nobody in Canada has one ins stock so it would have to come out of the US. I just don't want to do one that badly!

Not gonna lie, I was thinking about LED lighting, but I was thinking either vertical strips on the four corners for each level, or 4 spot lights on the top of each four corners on each level.

Let me get info on what my son did for his statues. He has that exact same cabinet (well about 4 of them) and experimented with several lighting set ups before he found one that worked well.

OK he has changed the shelves but used the same setup that he eventually settled on when he had the same as you.
Just soe basic led strips set in a V pattern. They should be dimmable though to get the best effect.
He says this gives the least shadowing or back lighting.

That is one of the kittens that was living under my side porch last year. He likes to help play video games.
