Toyota 86 Fuel Consumption

Hey guys so I recently bought a 2019 Toyota 86 GTS used from a dealer. I drive pretty well by always shifting below 3k and coasting whenever I can. However the gauge shows that I do 10.5L/100km. I drive half suburban and highway. Also when I unscrew the gas cap it makes a hissing noise? Is this normal?

Its better you calculate by filling up full tank and calculating how many kms you covered.

Hissing noise is normal. Don't stress about that.

And reset the fuel estimation gauge with every fill up. It will be more precise this way.

I'm pretty sure the fuel consumption is calculated using data from the fuel map so it should be extremely precise

. I could be wrong...

Actually the fuel consumption gauge shows an average. The longer you leave it without resetting the more accurate that average is since it has more varied data points.
It is the total opposite to what you would intuitively think is happening.

For your driving habits 10.5L/100 seems high. That's around 22mpg.

I get 9.5L/100 or 24mpg average in the winter with more idle time and long warm ups.

I'm guessing you fellow drivers must do a good bit of city driving? I think I'd have to punch a hole in my tank to get that low. Over 180,000 miles I've averaged 33.5MPH (7.02L/100km).

It's actually improved over time, even though the majority of the travel is the same roads. I posted about that earlier today (and on a couple of previous occasions in my owner's journal).

Yea that’s what I’ve been hearing. Should I go get it checked with a mechanic ?

Obviously couldn't hurt, but it's so condition specific, it may be your "normal". I can't really say its a requirement if you aren't seeing any other issues.

It's a mix, but I also don't baby the car either. I regularly take the car up to 5-7k rpm on the drives home via back roads to my house on 80kmh roads.
My morning commute is mostly highway. I live 1 minute from the highway so I end up idling my car for 5 minutes in the morning so I don't jump on with a stone cold engine when it is -10°c of colder.

That's why I find it odd I still manage better mileage in my worst possible conditions than his regular.
In the summer I average around 28mpg under the same mix of driving.

I usually get between 29-30 for my average and I live in a stop and go city. 22 seems a bit low to me unless you're sudden stopping and stomping the gas at every stop, could also be the gas you're using. Lower octane gas usually gets lower milage for me from what I've noticed the few times I've used it

I don't baby mine either, but I also don't ever idle for long (including warming up the car). Even in cold weather, I crank and go. Now, mind you I don't see but a handful of days a year below freezing where I live now, but even when I lived further N in the USA where that is the norm, I never warmed up my car.

The 4.3fd doesn't help. The best tank I have managed was cruise locked at 110kmh for most of the tank @ 32mpg. That's measuring mileage and fuel added at fill-up.

When I park the car in the garage and car shuffle I can set off right away without issue. it's when it sits in the driveway in temperatures -10c and below. Once it gets to -15c the clutch pedal is spongy on startup and takes 2-3 minutes idling to feel normal. it doesn't shift smoothy in those conditions until the fluid warms up.
