Sorry to hear about this - would love to know the reason for denial of warranty. If you have a spare minute, fill out the survey if you haven't already. At 5K miles it's a very new motor. https://forms.gle/RgHeQy7DQKdSY4Uz8

The description on the YouTube video says 19k miles, fresh oil change with 5w-30.

Why were you still trying to drive it for a full minute after it was clear that something was wrong?
Why did you stop while still on the track, then not even put your hazards on?
I literally almost yelled at my monitor over this.

Calm down scooter.

If you read the description in the drive article he thought something like a fender liner came loose initially. It's easy to judge his response with knowledge that the engine blew before even watching the video.

You don't pull off track when you have a problem, you pull over. Pulling off track is how you cause a fire, I have seen a 911 and a built S2k burn from pulling off. It's one of the top 10 things they tell us during drivers meetings up here.

lol, i hear you on the not pulling into the grass thing, but those are clearly not "fender liner came loose" noises, along with the obvious loss of power.

Now, I'm not saying it would've mattered if he shut it off right away. Maybe once he realized it was making death noises he figured he should "stay the course" and just make sure it did in fact completely die and release it's magic smoke.

"Remember, don't pull off the track until it releases the magic smoke!!!"

Can't assume everyone has the same amount of mechanical knowledge as you. How many "is this rod knock" threads do we see on here? Some are actually rod knock, some are totally normal.

If your engine fails on track/dyno/ do not upload video of it, or post on social media or tell your dealership where it happened. Maybe this is what tainted the dealer from replacing his engine.

it happened in a parking lot at a grocery store going 5mph....

The big story from last year, didn't the Starlink show that he was in a specific spot doing multiple "runs" over the same area or something like that?

I wonder how much “Privacy” searching they do. 13k is change for dealerships and even if they say they won’t replace it I’m sure Toyota would love to crack it open and document why the engine failed regardless of driver input for future quality issues or reinforcement of SOP procedures at engine factory.

It’s not 1970 where factory engines lucky they lasted 75-100k. You have an engine fail at 19k that’sa big red flag regardless.

I have no doubt they have known what is going on.

It’s the extreme minority so it’s not an actual problem…
