A guy I worked with left recently and I had to take over a lot of his work. He did an amazing job making it easy to understand by recording Skype meetings of himself doing the work, with commentary. Easiest takeover ever. He even told me to text him if I had questions and I was like, "dude, you're leaving, why would you offer that?" He was just generally really nice about it. I did end up having to text/call him. Felt bad, but again he was really nice about it.

Maybe the designated second in command wouldn't be as effective, but it still they would be better than having no one in charge.

I'd suggest you be careful with the thought that you are indispensable -

You would be amazed at the times accounting has told me they have called to pay a vendor, and the person that takes payments is out and no one else can do it I am talking very large companies, not little mom and pop shops.

I work for the state (kinda)... they don't make "logical" decision. Second in command would be nice... but due to budget issue, but can't afford any. Simple as that. Instead of opening up more lower grade level, they prefer to opening up more upstairs position that doesn't help, other than sit on their ass go to more pointless meetings.

I don't think, I'm indispensable. Just like anyone in their reg jobs, I can be replaced... BUT I'm 120% sure that if I leave now, it'll be train wreck for at LEAST 1 year... 2 years max. Within that time period, my boss will retire cuz she can (she have been here long enough) and don't wanna sort things out and prob both of supervisors will leave, cuz they don't wanna do all the stuff I do daily and other projects plus do their stuff. From there, HR will need to hire new boss, supervisors and figuring things out PLUS replacing my position and get the things sorted will take minimum of 1 years. Cuz HR takes FOREVER to post hiring & send resumes to the department.

It's always a roller coaster at work which is why it's entertaining at work. I rarely get burnt out... at least so far anyways.

Well, as long as you're OK with the situation - that's OK.

Welp, I reckon that would be their cash flow problem -

Therein lies the problem, "coworkers". I would suggest that you appoint (ask) ONE coworker to check your emails for POs.

I had several different jobs within the same large chemical company a while back. I mentioned to my friend and fellow long term employee that "every position I've had in this company, after I got promoted/transferred to another position, the company had to hire two people to replace me".

My friend said "yep, humfrz, that's true, because you screwed up those positions so badly, it took two people to straighten out the messes you left".

I work for the #5 (we were #2 in 2016) top automotive parts manufacturers in the world and at the plant level if you try to call in to pay an invoice and Karen was out then you would have to call back. Now of course we are talking both funds going out and coming in in terms of millions of dollars a month so nobody is calling anything in. Now, at the corporate level, there are probably at least 200 people in accounting that want Karen to send that payment on to them yesterday.

Because they won't let me fire anyone anymore That would straighten the rest right up.

Don't feel bad @humfrz, when I left they spread my old job out among 4 people, so I was messing up twice as bad.
