I find that seat heaters vary _widely_ between manufacturers. Ideally, you have a lo-mid-hi setup, but most of the Japanese models I've used don't have that setup (86/FR-S/BRZ, CR-V, GT-R).

Per the manual, our settings are 'normal' and 'rapid'--though there's no explanation around the expected output from those settings. My experience [and assumption] is that rapid heats quickly, and hotter than normal, but is cyclical in nature if you leave it on for a while. Normal heats lower and slower, but maintains the temperature. I typically use rapid to get the seat heated, and then flip to normal if I want to keep it going for a while or going to be on the highway for a bit.

I much prefer this to something like the 'hot' setting of the CR-V, which is uncomfortably hot. The GT-R is set up just like the 86/FR-S/BRZ where "HI" is "To heat the seat quickly" and "LO" is "To keep the seat warm".

I'm there there's plenty of thought that goes in to the temperature curves/output on these. If your complaint is a lack of heat, either your seats are malfunctioning or Toyota/FHI are too conservative for your liking.
Yeah, its lack of heat, as in you turn it on and wait and never really feel hardly anything. I'm gonna have to figure out how to do that "rapid" setting though. I just got the car a week ago and I'm still learning things.

By comparison, the Golf had a button for each seat. Push it once and three lights on the button light up (hot). Again goes to medium, and then low. Those seats got about hot enough on "hot" where if they got any hotter, they'd burn you.

I hope I can figure this out because the seat heaters were part of why I looked for a monogram. Although, diesels take forever to heat up and these cars get the regular heat going in a reasonable amount of time so it is less needed.

• The rapid setting is the forward switch position.

In mine (RS 2.0) they're up to full temp in ~1-2 minutes. The highest temperature seems to slightly vary slightly, though this could also be my perception of the temperature (core/torso temperature). They don't stay at the temp for very long.

• The 86/FR-S/BRZ have a button for each seat as well--not sure if I missed something in what you were saying here.

• The hi-mid-lo setup is quite common for German cars (Maybe all European? I know BMW and Mercedes use this setup).

If the settings aren't working as they're supposed to, and assuming you bought this from a dealership, take it by and have them look at it. I'm not sure how much heat transfers to the seat covers (or distance from the coils) when there's no seat load, but I'm sure there's a temp spec after X time from the switch being turned on that could be measured with a IR thermometer.

I hated that honk on my VW anyway. You didn't have a choice and it was obnoxious if you happened to be arriving home late at night.

I had the dealer turn the beep off on my FR-S before I took delivery. The flashing lights should be enough!

The aggravating part is you have to have the dealer do it. You should be able to do it from the dash somewhere.

Yea, I know, but it shouldn't be that difficult on a car built in 2012.

I can change about a couple of dozen settings on my 2004 Suburban using the info display and the steering wheel controls. Not quite as many settings, but I can do the same thing on MomHawk's '05 Mustang.

The Doors!

for some reason I really hate the doors... dont get me wrong I like how lightweight they are but damn.. too light for me. The lightest breeze closes the door on me. Half the time I dont even close it myself. I just let the weight of it close or the breeze for that matter lol. Im ALWAYS yelling at people for slamming it.

Or an ODBII dongle and Carista. Then you can also use DashCommand or the like.

Thanks, it works now. I was probably selecting the low setting and not noticing the switch had two options.

FR-S and 86. Turning off the LED DRL's alone is worth the cost of Carista.

The latest version of Carista needs a new dongle for some reason. I just went with the Carista dongle.
