Tire technology has come a long way though, Pilot Sport 4S for example. I LOVED how those transformed my WRX on the stock rims. I still never found the handling limits of the car, I was honestly too afraid to push it. |

205/55/16 & 225/50/16 are OEM. But the OEM 225/50/16 really measures like a 245/45/16. Many people upgrade from the 16x6.5 +55 front and 16x7.5 +65 rear to ap2 wheels that are 17x7 +55 front and 17x8.5 +65 rear. Then you can run 225/45 front and 255/40 rear. (Or 215/45/17 + 245/40/17) +45 is a low offset for these cars. Edit: the CR runs 215/45 + 255/40

Hmmm, that makes sense now. The seller mentioned he had some 10-spoke 17's from an Accord, but I failed to ask about the width (17x7 all-around sounds like what he's talking about). I will ask him about it tomorrow in person. |

The car deserves wheels that fit properly. Like the ones on it, which were perfect at stock power. So, after driving it, if you think the SC has added more power than the 16s can handle, you could get ap2 wheels and the Michelin tires you mentioned. The MPS4S does not come in 16" sizes. There are several different OEM wheel designs for the ap2 to choose from. Anyway, I am excited for you! I loved driving my S2000!

Well... needs a new clutch. The top end under power slips a little, but I don't really spend much time ripping on it. Soon as that's replaced, I'll start compiling my driving and ownership thoughts.

With the recent turn of events, I've had a little time to get more acquainted with this car. The usable rev range is so wide, most of the time I'm below VTEC. The brief time VTEC is enabled, the procharger is online and the 6k to 9k redline happens too fast on the first 3 gears that there's barely time to appreciate the added boost. But, it's a gradual boost with no lag, and the blow-off valve reminds you every time you lift the throttle... kind of sounds like a screaming bald eagle... MURICAAAAAAAA.... LOL...
My immediate driving impressions between a mere test-drive of an 86, the 86 is more refined and practical. The S2K feels... raw and mechanical. MY1999 thru 2005 uses a throttle cable, where the 2006+ uses drive-by-wire. In comparison to the drive-by-wire 86, the throttle cable on my 2001 S2K feels great, one more way to unite man and machine. The 6-speed short-throw gearbox in the S2K is one of the best I have ever felt. Every gear has a defined selection and there's little question where the next throw is (upshift or downshift). The entire exhaust system is stock, which is too quiet. I've been researching the crap out of catback systems because headers don't really do much on this car. Titanium exhaust, like a Tomei single exhaust is stupid loud, although badass for a weekend car (which it definitely is), I'm a little scared to even try it. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgbB55jrNao[/ame] I am extremely happy how the car invites me to drive slower on the back roads and really take in the scenery, the noises you don't normally hear in a coupe, and racecar noises when you really open things up. Having 9000 RPM on tap, with forced induction, means I can stay in the same gear longer and not be forced to take away the racecar sounds (I'm slowly convincing myself Tomei is both the best and worst decision LOL). It is a BLAST on roads with lots of turns, S-bends, and spirited straightaways. Some kind of exhaust will end up being a winter-time project.... right... let's see how long I can pull that off. |

I thought about this long and hard. Found the perfect exhaust for me from Evasive Motorsports. The Tomei is just too much volume. This car is racecar loud with just a catback with stock cat.

I had this exhaust on my CR. It was loud and it droned. Didn't look nice neither. Just IMO.

Wellllll, it's a funny thing. I absolutely love this car for all of the right reasons. And for more of the right reasons, I need to part ways with it. My wife and I went for a nice cruise last weekend. It's been tough finding time just the two of us with our 2-year-old daughter. The weather was great, the lack of traffic was great, the roads to our destination were great. But something was missing - our daughter.
I know the backseats in an FRS aren't much, but it offers more than the S2K. Other cars that I was heavily interested in included both 996 and 997 Porsche 911's (don't yell at me about IMS bearings lol). Very nice cars, awesome exhaust note, but few are available in my region, and even fewer in my comfortable price point that are worth buying. I keep getting drawn back to this forum for the community, and the FRS-triplets continue to remind me "hey, you wanted us all along. What's the hold up?" It'd be nice to pick up one of these and share my passion for driving with my entire family. |
