One of the perks of my job is that I have to figure out shit I previously knew nothing about. When I was working out failure issues in our spring shop I consulted with a dude who had a PHD in metallurgy. A lot of what he said went over my head but I was able to glean enough from his reports to solve our issues. It's kinda fun and kinda makes me feel really stupid that there are people out there who know so much to casually talk about it off the top of their head.

Here's another one for you all. Those mystery symbols on plastic parts are a lot of times material identifiers. Stock BRZ motor mounts. PA66-GF50

PA is polyamide, in thermoplastics this is almost always Nylon. GF50 means glass fiber reinforced 50% by weight.
