Coilover Ball Joint Bolt
Looking for some insight on this, it's limited to find online as far as I've found:
The singular, main bolt at the top center of the coilover I found to be a tad loose when I checked it (Was diagnoing a clunk noise from the front). I've looked online and found that ~40ft/lbs is an average torque spec for where that top bolt needs to be tightened down to, however I was wondering if there were any coilover gurus here that want to chime in on what the correct process is to get this at proper tightness. Should I just be torquing the bolt as is, or do I need to use a wrench to hold the assembly in place during this? Hoping someone might have some more insight than me, weird subject. Coilovers: HKS Hypermax GTIV Thank you UPDATE: You're all super helpful, appreciate the responses. Last edited by scottryan; 07-30-2022 at 05:13 PM. |

Yes you will need to hold the damper body to prevent it from rotating.
I do 3 uga-dugas on an impact driver per vorshlags suggestion. |

I am sorry but the correct way is to hold it with an alien wrench and torque the nut with a torque wrench.
FYI I did use an impact on mine it is easier. |

Also, set the compression/rebound adjuster in the middle before you use the impact.

Had a little clunk, tightened the top nut (I had a hunch because when I had them off, the ball joint felt loose, easy to spin the top) So I tightened to 40ft/lbs and zero clunk now.

It’s pretty common with aftermarket camber plates. That or the sway bar end link is loose. I check mine multiple times a year.
