I have gotten this CEL before too. But it was caused by a cheap OBD2 port reader. I'd get communication error CEL sometimes too.

I just got this cel tonight for the first time. Also a 2013 frs, but about 60k miles. Been running ofh3, oft, e85,drop in filter since Nov 2016. Cel came on shortly after the fuel light this morning. Filled up and cleared the code. No drivability issues.

I now understand to keep the tank full, given the explanation above that makes sense, but it still feels a little bit like a bullshit dealer excuse. Never had this issue with the six beaters I've driven into the ground the past 20 years.

Really wanted to make some lame jokes about keeping the tank low for weight reduction to max my 1/4 Mile times, but I'm a day late.

Anybody have a conclusive solve for this issue yet?

Hello, had same issue.

The readings on fuel gauge are off and when the check engine light comes on, car starts kinda weird. It feels like the batter is not charged fully, but that is not the case.

Still looking for the solution.

I've had this code using OFT before as well, but it seems your issue might actually be the sensors. You not only have a fuel issue on startup but also a gauge issue, for people with OFT its mostly been just the CEL

Any idea how much the sensors could cost and if it is possible to change them myself?

I'm not really sure as there could be extraneous gaskets and other stuff but I know the fuel gauge sending unit itself is $80:

Ok so yesterday was the day that I had enough of Check Engine light bullshit, so I took both fuel senders out and find that there is a fuel line that connects both of them. That line was trapped below one of the fuel level sensors blocking it to drop all the way down. After I untangled them and assembled everything back it works perfectly. No Check Engine light, no wrong readings in the fuel gauge.

For information how to take fuel senders out I used this YouTube video (there is actually two senders, one under each back seat, the removing process is the same as in video)

The guy in video shows how to remove fuel pump, you don't need to do it, just to take all that white thing out and check if nothing is trapped under / above fuel level sensor:

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELq72XVlJrY[/ame]

PRO TIP: If you will try this method, make sure you are almost empty on fuel, because there is 99% chance that it will spill out when you will try to remove the fuel sender from fuel tank.

How those two senders looks like and how they are connected:

How did the lines get tangled? Just by chance?

I'm from Lithuania and I bought my car from USA, so maybe somewhere in transportation process something happened (car got tilted too much, etc.), after I got everything to place test drove it really hard, but still no issues occurred (also gauge works properly), probably it's just by chance and really slim one.
