I think if you took the exact same car and made two versions of it, FWD and RWD, there would be a negligible difference in track times.

I think this mentality derives from the fact that most economy (cheap) cars are traditionally FWD because they are cheaper and more production friendly. The cars are not necessarily geared toward a specific purpose (like track ability) like many RWD cars are from the drawing board.
The track time itself pretty much proves that the drive train configuration itself is not what makes a car fast.

I like how contradictory a lot of the comments are (not just in this thread):
  • Prius tires makes the car fun to go around corners.
  • You have to put on grippy tires to be fair.

I find it easier to say I drive a Subaru BRZ than a Ford Fiesta, no matter how fast it can go!

I know that you use the BRZ but... saying you drive a Scion won't impress a lot of people either if you are just going by the brand/stigma.

Which driver had the widest grin?

Agree on the tires, though. The Michelins are incredibly poor on track.

I don't know why they don't just put an option tire to deal with these "reviews"

I'm pretty sure at the end of my original post there is a big fat IMO at the end of it. I never said anything about FACT, I stated my opinion. I simply don't care for understeer.

im beginning to think that the tire choice was deliberate. not to make the car much more fun but as a scapegoat for anytime anyone says anything less than stellar about the car.

I am not sure, but doesn't a more grippy tire mean you need more hp/torque also to get going? I mean a turtle only goes so fast regardless......
I have an auto and it does not matter what tire I use, it is slow compared to almost everything. Maybe with a better tire I may gain alittle in a turn. However, that will be short lived as soon as there is any type of straight.
On a track is only place you will see gains with tires.

not at all. if anything more grip would get you going faster since you arent spinning tires to do it. the grip might reign in your top end a little but its not a linear handoff between grip and rolling resistance so its going to me much less significant than it might seem

It is not a suprise. Face it like a man. While being a good car, the FT86 is UnderPowered. If it was to have 250hp, 210 lbs/ft. Then it is good.

I said it a million time, and i repeat. I dont care how good you are in a corner, but you dont have the power to get out of it, and straight line...you lose it...in the track. In real life, you are not drifting in traffic, neither do you approach a corner doing double/triple lanes, when you see a CUV or SEDAN pass you with power....you realize how cheesy you are.

We are not asking for too much. Not a crazy number, but a reasonable one....comon TOYOTA.
