It's faster than a 29er and handles much better than a 26. Niners are great bikes too. The owner of Niner bikes is a really cool dude, and he's really involved in the sport. I'd love to go to Homestead and race you.. I just took delivery of a FR-S series 10 (yesterday 4-30-14) and live in Ft. Lauderdale, so Homestead is 45 mins away. What do I need to do to sign up?
