EcuTeK RaceROM Map Switching - Restore Last Map on Startup Trick (VIDEO)

Hi All,

I am not sure if this is common knowledge or not but thought we would make a quick video to show a small trick to restore the last map stored when your Toyota 86, Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ was shut off last. As most of us are aware the vehicle defaults back to map one after a certain time frame of being shut off. This makes restarting the vehicle, and switching to the proper map a nuisance or maybe we are just lazy. LOL

For those of you that are not familiar with EcuTeK RaceROM, there is an option your Master Tuner can setup/enable. This allows you the user to switch between multiple maps on the vehicle through the cruise control and a couple other methods. Cruise control is by far the most common approach used from our customer base and what we will go through in the video.

Restore Last Map on Startup - Quick Reference:
1. Turn the vehicle to the "ON Position"
2. Let the gauge cluster do a full sweep
3. Shut the vehicle OFF
4. Now start the vehicle normally

Hope this makes things a little quicker and easier for everyone. Have a great weekend.

Cheers,
William Knose

This was posted a while back, but thanks for reminding people and putting together a video. It doesn't seem to be talked about a lot.

It is definitely makes things a little easier for when customers come in and you have no idea what map they were last on and you forget to ask them.

As Kodename47 stated it does not disable cruise control. The procedure for making it works is a little different than activating your cruise control. You just need to hold the cruise control back for 3 seconds to get activate the map selection mode.

Here is a quick video on it.

Delicious Tuning, I have a question with the AEM failsafe data log are we able to see a catastrofic failure in a blown enguine?

Can I get ecutek data log by myself or do I need ask the tuner for it?

I do not think there is any easy way to see a catastrophic failure of an engine in datalogs alone. When tearing down the engine you can review the engine internals and see where the engine failed. Such failure can be at bearings, rods, pistons, etc... But each tells a story of how it broke or failed and that will lead to what caused the engine failure.

Now you could see some interesting data in your logs that might show where things started to go wrong, but this could have been after the the engine failed. Such things as check engine lights, car running leaner, knock correction, etc... can all happen after the fact.

With EcuTeK Dongle, Cable and Software you can log the vehicle yourself. You get the basic logging parameters on a stock vehicle but if your vehicle has been tuned you can grab even more variables to log.

Hope that helps,
William Knose

FYI, never found meth kits to be reliable or consistent. Might have been the cause.
