Recommendation for lightweight wheels without breaking the bank
I'm posting this question in the Autocross forum because most people in here care more about function over looks.
If money wasn't an issue, all of us would get forged wheels. However, like most people, we are limited by our funds. It appears that the Enkei RPF1 is the staple autocross wheel. Are there other alternatives besides those? I've looked at the O.Z. Alleggerita HLT and they appear to be the same weight as the RPF1. I'm specifically looking at 17x8 wrapped in 215/45/17. Thanks in advance! |

You can go to a different section width and aspect ratio Alan. I wouldn't stay at 215/45 if I was already shelling out for new wheels (that don't meet stock class rules anyway).

Tire Rack's Kosei house brand wheel is a great value for a light wheel. Available in 17x7(14.0lb) and 17x8 (15.8lb). The K4R model fits the FRS/BRZ.

The 215 tires will be "optimal" for summer performance tires (RE11, Z1, etc). There will be a small bit of strecth, but the sidewalls will be stiffer. On the stock OEM tires, 17x8 would stretch the tire a too much, but summer performance tires will generally have wider shoulders to accommodate for wider wheels. You can look at Tire Rack 215/45/17 summer tires and it will show a section width of 8'', which is the same as wheel width, 17x8.

Enkei Fujin 17x7.5, 17lbs each. Stock rims are 20lbs each. That's what I bought. Made like the Enkei racing series rims but not as expensive just a little heavier but more durable for street. They look great. See my FRS with them on in the Wheels thread.

Rota SlipStreams are hands down the most cost effective light weight solution, just don't be doing any jumps ya'hurd.
