Ignition coils - '12 GT86 - P0351
Good morning FT86 forum members,
I'm just guessing if I could use forum's knowledge on our beloved cars here, for a question that has arisen in my mind after suffering a P0351 problem - CEL light in my dash. I own a Toyota GT86 from 2012, so first of all I'm not sure if I should post here, on FRS / BRZ forum (I hope so as the car is almost the same). When reading all the info available on this forum for this error code, it seems I need to change the coil for cylinder 1. Question arises when trying to find part number for the coil. According to Toyota, part should be SU003-00417. However, if I search for Subaru's one, it's 22433-AA652. As the first one seems to be more difficult to find, and more expensive, is there any known issue I should be aware of if I try to use Subaru's one on my Toyota? Price is almost half!! Thank you very much, David |

Hi Davin,
The engine should be the same in the BRZ/FRS/GT86. just triple check if its indeed the part you need and if its for the 2012 engine |

Subaru uses a different part number system even though the parts are exactly the same. As long as the part number is applicable for a 2013 BRZ/FRS/86 it will be exactly the same part across the board. Use it without fear.

Thanks for your help guys! Really appreciated.
Before buying the coil, I'll switch my air filter back to stock one and test if I'm able to get CEL again - P0351 appeared on the same day I installed a drop-in filter from K&N (the rest of the car is full stock) and high revving (pretty darn easy to get it, just rev upper from 6K). Does anybody know if there's any relationship between these events or is a normal one to see a coil failure at 46K Km? First one of my GT86 life... Thanks & have a good day, David |

@Tcoat anyone know if there are compatibility issues between 2015 BRZ and FRS? i bought some coils for a 2015 FRS but I later realized that the 2015 BRZ isnt listed as compatible. just want to know if they can work or if they are completely different?

2012-2014 are a different part from the 2015+. The connector is different. This applies to both the FRS and BRZ models. Ex. If you have a 2014 buy the coils from a 2015 will not work. Easy way to tell the difference. The 2012-2014 will have a "straight" 3 prong plug. the 2015+ plug is triangular.
