A hot hatch is a hot hatch.

Why do people need to make up new categorisations for things that have been around for 30 years.

Warm hatch?, WTF, Hyper hatch, LOL.

Kids these days

They are pretty widely used now by journos. The twins performance was always considered in that “warm hatch” category. Veloster turbo and Fiesta ST are pretty comparable in straight line performance.

They don't call them "hatches" anymore anyway. They are all starting to call them "5 doors" which is one of the dumbest sounding terms ever.

so....

5 doors have existed for awhile.. hell the Mazda PR5 is a 5 door protege..

Just like "coupe hatchbacks" have been called 3 doors since at least the 90s. This doesn't seem new..

This is true but the term is becoming more common.
Oh and your idea of "a while" and mine are probably plenty different anyway. The 90s was like last week not a long time ago.

Maybe it was just me, but in the 70s/80s I only thought of fastback coupes as "hatchbacks", while Golf/Rabbit type of econocars were 3- and 5-doors. And there was the occasional 5-door fast/hatchback like the Mazda 626, an underutilized cofiguration IMO!

With the size of a modern hatch, they should be called wagons instead.

This reminds me years ago I worked for a company and our delivery guy, who was super nice, happened to also be a Jehova's Witness. On the weekend one of the guys told him he.should take his cube van home with him. And, that there's several doors he can knock on it too!

Nope, it's not just you. Take the Chevy Vega for example. It was manufactured from 1970 to 1977. It was available in two-door hatchback (fastback), notchback, Kammback wagon, and sedan delivery body styles.
As I've stated before I purchased a brand new hatchback like this back in 1973.

Sweet! LS swap material... Or Kswap! Are there any 16v Cosworth Vega engines around or did they all die of headgasket issues?

Vega was just about as turd as the Pinto.

Sending astronauts to the moon all the while making aluminum 4cyl blocks that warped. Perhaps sleeves were an oversight?

You do realise Mk is simply short for mark, and refers to a particular model, right? Gen2/Mk2 are interchangeable when referring to the second iteration of the twins.
