BRZ/GT86 vs 350Z/370Z
Hi guys,
I am choosing my first drift car. I am new, but I would like to find the platform to keep for a long time. Right now I am hesitating between the BRZ/GT86 vs 350Z/370Z. I am more inclined towards the BRZ, only concern is the power in the long run. I would like to have light car with great handling but more power (somewhere between 300-500 HP in the future)..more importantly reliable. One of the reasons why I am posting is I am afraid that I will loose the car's perks during HP hunting (e.g. swapping the engine and worsen the car balance and handling). Is it better to "just" turbocharge the car rather than doing the engine swap? The BRZ/GT86 is probably more fun car than Nissan so I definitely want that. At the same time what is the cost value ratio, in case I want more powerful application, will I be better off with 350Z/370Z? In another words, is it harder/more expensive to improve Nissan handling or increase BRZ/GT86 power. And in a few years (when I sum up all my expension), if I want to have car with exceptional handling and certain power (higher than stock BRZ/GT86 can offer) what will be cheaper? And will I be able to get as good car control in 350Z/370Z with some modifications as in BRZ/GT86 at all? Thank you very much for any advice. |

Get the nissan and fix the suspension issues with a welded diff (cus drift car). You'd be able to get the power numbers you want out of the Z a lot easier and wouldn't have to worry about the transmission if you get a 370 or a later year 350.

The other issue with the twins is the engine, particularly the oiling, when it comes to drifting. Being a flat engine, under high G force the oil tends to go to one side of the engine which causes oil starvation. The other issue is that subaru just uses a trash oil pick up tube that breaks. Yes you can install a baffle and a new pickup tube, but I personally still wouldn't trust it for drifting purposes. I'm not saying people shouldn't, I'm just saying I wouldn't. The only reason to go with a twin over a Z for your power goals would be if you simply just love the chassis. The Z already makes near the power that you want. The Z comes with a CD009 (late model 350Z and 370Z) transmission which are known for holding more than enough power than what your goals seem to be. You could get a twin and K swap it with a turbo and transmission swap it. But at that point you would have spent way more money on it than you would a Z with coil overs, sway bars, and some bolt ons. This is just my usually incorrect opinion though. As for the super charger, someone else can probably answer that question. |
