It’s just the same for the anecdotes of people dying from covid who are/where vaccinated. It still happens all the time. But obviously statistically you have much better odds of dealing with covid if you are vaccinated, same with being “fit/healthy”.

You just proved a damn good point without realizing it. Or maybe you did. Anecdotal accounts. There have been quite a few accounts of 'healthy' individuals getting COVID and getting extremely ill. If we are going to chalk the whole, 'it's just anecdotal evidence' as nonsense, then we can do the exact same thing as those pointing fingers at vaccinated people getting COVID.

Exactly, should be applied evenly on both sides.

I see both sides doing it, However one side has a monopoly on the media so you see that side far more frequently.

"34yr old fitness/personal trainer mom of 3 dies of covid" on all the headline
but rarely ever "29yr old vaccinated father of 2 dies of covid" (also not sure the relevance of how many kids someone has other then to make it sound like more of a tragedy, and stir up emotions for a better headline and news story)

That's why personally I never reference anecdotes or I specify it is such. knowing it bares no relevance to the argument, only an interesting or entertaining story.

In the end a statistical analysis is just a review of a collection of someone's anecdotal evidence.

My only point was that it is no panacea. I'm perfectly aware that it certainly improves your chances of surviving COVID, although it does nothing towards preventing you getting it.

I got the Moderna shot in August cause I chose to. I have never had Covid that I know of. I could not care less if other people choose to not get it. I am protected from them now and if I am not the vaccine is not effective anyway right ?

That's basically where I stand. At this point we will get to something close to herd immunity eventually, either you will have had the vaccine, the virus, or both before it's all said and done.

About 1/3 the US population has had COVID. That is more than the Spanish Flu which was estimated at 1/4 of the population, so we are getting close.

Ultimately, for me, it is personal choice whether you get the shot or not. I also think it is "corporate" choice if the company you work for wants to mandate it, particularly in a right to work state. I could even argue that it falls under the "provide for the common good" portion of the US Constitution that the Feds could mandate it here.

What the government can and cannot do can impact an individual's rights unless that right is specifically spelled out as one that is protected.

Interestingly, at least in the couple of sources I've read, the Spanish Flu never actually "went away". It just sort of receded into the background and became part of the seasonal flu every year. It's big deal was it killed quickly (in just a few days) and attacked youth. It actually lowered the life expectancy by about 12 years in 1918.

My brother in law told me today that he put a vaxxine mandate on all his employees that work in his offices. He's in the insurance business and basically has several floors in 2 office buildings, whatever number of employees that is. Three employees ended up leaving. They will just take their clients if they can, and go elsewhere.

The big argument is you can't force me, and what if this rushed vaxxine gives everyone cancer or something after.
I still feel good sticking with the advice of our doctors and governments and I have yet to see this as being harmful to myself or family.

And that's OK, and I respect a person that has the courage of their convections.

I believe I've relayed this before, but I almost left my current employer over their TB test requirement. The first time they gave it to me (they use the stick and check method) I had a non-TB allergic reaction to it. I had them document it. Next year, they said it didn't matter I had to have the test and they had no record of my allergy (the nurse did not write in my record I guess).

I told them that I know what an allergic reaction looks like, and just like them taking my word for my penicillin an NSAID allergy they'll have to take my word for it. They then said I would have to pay for the xrays every year for a standard test. I told them no, it wasn't my requirement it was theirs. If they wanted me to do it, they'd have to pay for it.

Ultimately the CMO agreed with me. I would have have resigned over it.

It will be interesting to see if the breakthroughs begin to proliferate in the less relaxed states as winter comes in. We've had our fair share in Florida for sure and it appears were now close to herd immunity.

Nothing is really free but air and sometimes advice. Hopefully the superpowers that may develop are desirable ones. The drug companies have no liability in this if it goes south. I wonder why that is ?
