That’s a good point- who thinks the new GR86 will be the modern day S2K?

I think the pedal box impressions are very subjective.
Some people say it's already ideal for heel-toe stock, some NEED a pedal spacer. I started with a spacer and made things a lot better for me, but now that I got more experienced I wish I could have a thinner spacer. Oh well. |

Which spacer are you using? I just have a piece of 3/8 uhmw under my pedal. Works with stock hardware. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you watch Doug DeMuro’s recent review on the S2000 CR (he praises it) he explains why the S2000 did not sell well toward the end of its life, which resulted in Honda releasing the CR to wring out final sales (much like how Subaru did so with the tS). Based on what I’ve heard the S2000 was much like the 1st Gen twins where it did not come alive until high RPM’s. I’ve also heard that the 1st Gen Twins have better steering feel than S2000’s whereas the S2000 has better shifter feel and having 9000/8200 rpm redline. With the 2nd Gen GR86 (and most likely BRZ) it seems to be praised for the engine finally being capable enough for its chassis. The GR86 seems more playful than the S2000, but the S2000 did not have enough low end torque to allow it to be as playful. I believe the S2000 to be more precision-based rather than playful which probably makes it a little bit better driver’s car based on specs. If anything, the BRZ may have more of an S2000 setup due to it reportedly being more neutral (according to the Japanese comparison drives).

I don't right now but I can take some. I have a ton of scrap UHMW at work so I just snag what I need. I am size 9 shoe and it works perfect for me with the cusco pedal cover. I thought moving the pedal over and out was a bit much like what the spacers on the market do.

After a few hours of reviews. The new one looks pretty good. But for me not worth the trade in loss and having to go back to stock work. Not for my 118 mile round trip commute with 65k miles currently. I’ll save the money for a used cayman s as a weekend toy and burn miles on the BRZ. But count me in on getting a used one in a few years, or maybe a special edition with performance package. Reviews are all good except for the engine sound speaker.

Well, Subaru basically took all our troubleshooting as guinea pigs fixing the 1st gen problems and incorporated it. I wonder if their engineers lurk on this site. It amazing seeing all the refinements and attention to enthusiasts feedback. Its like a replay of ft86club's greatest hits
-Crappy oil pressure/ temp? Here's that forester oil cooler you use to put on yourself! -Shitty weak 4th gear synchro? Here's a better 4th gear synchro! -Loose shifter? Here's some Mtec shift springs! -Crunchy gears? Added that special Motul+Pensotin blend oil you guys like! -weird clutch feel? we lowered the engagement (new mtec spring lol) just for you and no we didn't touch the slave cylinder -Bent rods and torque hole? fixed that too! -You guys love exhausts? Playing resonant drone sounds right at 3K directly from a speaker!! |

Watching the TH video the ND2 was ahead almost the entire time until the end of the 1/4 mile. And then the GR86 pulled ahead by half a car at the end. So that would mean the GR86 has a slower 0-60 & 1/8 mile but a slightly better 1/4 mile. Hagerty seemingly came up with a much different result so I went back and rewatched Hagerty. If the Hagerty race is real time it doesn't make sense. The drag race starts at 13 and supposedly gaps the ND at 34 secs which is a 21sec 1/4 mile. If it's real time the Miata was probably coming off gas at that point. At 13+15sec (where the cars should be finishing around) around the 28sec mark the in cabin view matches the TH video much more closely. |
