I swear, as bad as some of these maintenance guys are that call for tech support, they may as well put the piece of equipment on the phone for me to talk to

I pretty much got that today. He wanted to start up the machine and hold his phone to it so I could hear what is happening. I had to politely tell him that wasn't necessary. Do you have any idea how hard it is to be polite to these people sometimes?

If it's any consolation, early today we had a user print out a PDF that was emailed to her, scan it with an MFP without modifying anything, email the scanned image to herself from the MFP, and then report the email as phishing.

I wonder if she entered a support request for local IT because she thought the MFP wasn't working...

Dealing with people is frustrating at the best of times. The wife has many, MANY stories from her 35+ years in the car bizz. For example:
Woman complains that she's tried everything to clean her infotainment screen but she still can't get a good image when she puts the vehicle in reverse. The wife asks for the keys and they both go out to the car. She walks around the car and then gets in the drivers seat. The owner hops in the passenger side. The wife starts the vehicle and puts it into reverse, voila! The rear view image is perfect. The woman is totally confused. She goes on and on about all the cleaning she's done and never got those results. The wife tells her to meet her at the back of the car. There, she takes the tissue she had in her hand and gently wipes the camera lens a second time. (She did it the first time as she walked around the car.) She explains that doing so every couple of days will keep the lens clean. The woman was gobsmacked. She then admitted that she never thought about where the image on the dash came from.

Would have been more intelligent than him describing the problem to me. The machine was vibrating. It has two urethane coated rollers, two shafts, 4 bearings, and runs on one belt. Not a whole lot to troubleshoot there.

lol. When I worked at the motorcycle dealership I did a service on a customers sportbike. The guy stormed into the shop all mad I scratched his tank. The service writers walks over with a can of polish and wiped the bug grime that came off his riding jacket off the tank. Then slammed the dudes visor down and grabbed his helmet by the chin and not so gingerly cleaned his lens. We both got a talking to on that one, but it was worth it
