You should redline it at least once each day, to verify that your limiter is working properly!

I thought the rev limiter was used as an audible shift indicator. It works for me. Just kidding, the red line is the safe limit, use it.

We tuned the car to preserve the engine and increase longevity. Use the redline when you feel
its necessary for win. Good luck

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet: Only after the engine has reached full operating temperature.

Not the water temp, the OIL. Give it a good 15-20 minutes before dropping the hammer.

I think the red line counter is limited to 99. After that the computer will put the car into limp mode until you take it in for inspection and service. The inspection costs $400 at Subaru. I don't know what the Toyota dealers charge.

There's an easy way to check your RL counter to see how many you have left. There are three buttons on the dash for odometer and such. Put the car into accessory mode and punch the following sequence as fast as you can: top-middle-middle-top-bottom-top-middle-top-top-top, then pump the hand brake three times. The check engine light will begin flashing yellow, and the RL count will display on the dash in place of the odometer.

You have to get the timing just right to make it happen. It may take you several attempts.

I set my idle to be at redline

If anything comes up, I'll be able to say "The engine blew up at idle, I dont know what happened?!"
