I looked under there once more and cant find the thin box you mentioned... below is the picture showing the ECU and where I think the "thin box" should be? its just a plastic mount there at the moment...

(sorry for the bad cell phone pic...)

The picture is not showing, maybe you shared it from a closed access album. Try and attach it to the post from your computer or try hosting it from a different site.

Apologies if i'm stating something that has already been said.

Switched 12v can be found in the radio harness. In the white 10 pin plug, pin 3, red wire. I believe, I haven't checked, the radio is fused at 10 amps, there's no need to add an inline fuse, but you can if you desire.

Illumination/Dimmer (+,-) can also be found in the radio harness. In the white 10 pin plug, pin 10; white 6 pin plug, pin 5. Purple (parking lights); Black/White (dimmer).

The reliable place for the tachometer signal is at the camshaft position sensor on pass side of engine, gry 3 pin plg, pin 2. green/white

Once again, sorry if these were answered previously.

Thanks for the info!! I'll try that pin 10 for Ill+/-

The tach signal, it is strongly advised to not use the crankshaft sensor for it.

Interesting, I wonder why.

However, from my own personal experience, you can also use any fuel injector, which are pink, pink/blue, pink/black, or pink/green at the ECM behind the glove box, white 34 pin plug (D), pin 12, 22, 32, or 13.

I can get you a picture later today if that'll help any or if you have any help you can just meter it with your multimeter on AC volts. It should fluctuate as you press and depress the throttle.

Thanks for the pics.

The reason why I am insisting on trying to find the tach output instead of with the fuel injector / crank shaft sensor is the fear of interfering with the signal. Had experience before with an impreza build where customers use those signals and keeps burning out / screwing with the engine.

There is no interference. Gauges don't send current, they read the input. You can't interfere with anything when there's nothing to interfere with.

As many vehicles as I've worked on, I have not experienced an issue where one tach connection was any better over another, aside from convenience of location, and especially nothing noting fuel injectors weren't a reliable source for a tach signal.

In fact, unless using a data module, most vehicles spec the uncommon color wire at the fuel injector to be used as the tach. At least in these vehicles, I don't have to go under the hood to get to it.

I don't know why we are over complicating this. The OEM wiring has two TACH signals and they are both available inside the car. Just tap into one of them. It is possible that @Lonely Sushi does not have the same certification ECU box as the US cars.

If you guys got in in the FRS I should too. The car was a direct import from US, not from local dealers. but ya, Im sure those two tach signal works (thought this was gonna be a breeze after checking out the wiring diagram), just cant find it thats why I am thinking is it possible FRS and BRZ has slight different wiring? or I am just looking at wrong place for the tach output.

Now I am very confused. If your car is a US spec, then there should definitely be a thinner box than the ECU mounted in that same area with three connectors going into it. I can tell you that on my car it mounts to the dash frame with a bolt that is best accessed with the panel on the side of the dash removed (this panel is covered by the door when the door is closed). When you pull the panel off, you will see a 10mm head bolt for the mounting bracket of the certification ECU box. I can probably snap a pic tonight to show exactly where I tapped in for RPM.

Pic would be awesome!! I routed the cable but didn't have time to tap it.
