My new dash is doing it again. Just slightly, but its doing it.
Gotta take it in for a new HPFP, radio won't synch with phone, tail light condensation, rattles everywhere. Not really excited. |

I had this issue with mine, I was able to fix it without glue or replacing the dashboard.
When I removed the air vent I noticed that the material and white foam were still stuck down just fine, but the thin plastic they are glued to had deformed a little from the heat of the sun. What I did was remove the air vent, and duct tape the left and right sides (pulling the plastic down about 1cm each side), this made the center section with the tab for the vent go up a little, I left it like this in the sun all afternoon until it had cooled off in the evening, and removed the tape, reinstalled my vent and it retained its original shape (no more bulging on left and right and dipping for the tab in the middle). I believe the problem to be the cold A/C air on one side of the plastic and the piping hot sun beaming down on the other, causing warping of the thin upper plastic, so what I did was take a oven proof cloth and placed it between the top of the vent insert and the upper plastic so that the temperature never gets to alternating extremes on the same material Haven't had the problem since. Also, to echo what everyone else is saying, get yourselves a good mirrored sun screen, not only will it reduce the risk of long term dash damage but you'll be less likely to need to put the AC on full blast the second you get in the car. I'm currently working on a glue-on solution for this that should fix it properly, wether your bulge is due to the plastic deforming or the foams adhesion failing.
Will update soon, attempting the solution on a friends BRZ later today. |

I've been using the Subaru sold sunshade (so it fits the window perfectly) since day 1, and my dash still warped above the center air vents. I'm a month away from being out of warranty and the dash is being replaced next week. I plan on selling the car within the next 6-months, partly because I don't have faith the replacement dash won't eventually do the same.
For anyone curious, supposedly approval is as simple as the dealer emailing pictures of the problem to Subaru of America and requesting approval for a replacement. Obviously this probably varies country to country, but at least in the US that's all it takes. |

Brought it up to the local dealer (nasty shaped M center of dash) to which the tech replied "oh that?, I checked it out and all the frs' on our lot have that". I asked the tech to walk me over to the "other" FRS'... the dealer had 0. Imagine his face of "oh fuck" when the salespeople said there were none after we walked quite a while trying to find one. Anyway, after showing him pictures on Google from cars that had a straight dash he said "alright, we will get you a new dash" and that was that.
