I think you may definitely (may definitely?????? Always sometimes, likely perfectly) be an oddity.

Budget usually being concern number one for most, I'd think, then type of vehicle second.

Totally. I'm happy with that, and this may be the first that this has ever been said, but this car isn't meant for straight line speed. I just raised those points for those people wanting a turbo, it's already almost as fast as a WRX/STI, but with a much more fun drivetrain (in stock form).

It sounds like this car wont need to be modified from stock much at all. That itself would have saved me a ton of money and helped preserve resale value.

I agree budget is a consideration. I also cross shop new and old which sometimes balances out some (but not all) the budget piece.

I usually shop within a max price range, but don't really care how far below that max I go. The idea is to be as below it as I can and be happy with the decision. I usually have a max cash range, and a max financed range, with the max cash range as a downpayment.

I can agree with that, but I think that for most people's budget that doesn't give you that much more options. If your budget is $100k, you can compare a base 911, a high end Cayman, an M or an AMG car, as well as the Twins, a Miata or a GTI (and many more). If your budget is $30k, you're back to the Twins/Miata/370z and the base pony cars. All this is obviously true for new only. If you start considering used as well all bets are off, especially if you're okay with older cars.
On the other hand, I doubt a person considering a 911 is gonna give any consideration for a Miata or a Twin.
On the gripping hand, most people shop for something a little more specific than "4 wheels and fun in any one of the many ways cars can be fun", so cross-shopping in the segment is more common than across segments.

Oh, I know. I will have a good amount of money "invested" into my FR-S when complete and the only thing that will have any value is the parts, maybe. I'm good with that. I see what you're saying though.

I like what they've done the GenII. They addressed a lot of what the market wanted IMHO. It's a fantastic car for 30K and hope people realize what a bargain it still is. It does it all. DD, weekend toy and an excellent track car right out of the box. Thumbs up Subaru!

I want the engine in my car Shouldn't be long before people start the swap. Few years at most before it's figured out?

So the first version was correct, it is still ‘power to weight’ that matters. No race teams talk about ‘torque to weight’ as it is irrelevant and tells you nothing about performance in isolation. Power to weight is what delivers performance numbers.

And have him drop the platform support after 2 days? No thanks. I’ll wait for Delicious Tuning and Xero Limits.

Full disclosure: I went with Shiv’s products on 2 platforms and the experience was identical. A very well engineered package that was among the first available, at a very competitive price. This came at the cost of very poor customer support and a very short support lifecycle, when they promptly pull out of the market for the given platform, and move on to something else. It’s like a business with ADHD.

I often wonder about the huge difference between reported US 0-60mph times vs 0-100kmh (0-62mph) times achieved here in Australia or over in Europe.

Take the twins for example, various US sources report high 5s to 60mph. But instrumented testing here reveals 0-100kmh times of mid-high 7s. Nearly 2s difference cannot be explained by an extra 2mph, one extra gear change and not including 1 foot of roll out, can it? I’d expect all that to add 1s at most, but a 2s discrepancy is not uncommon.

Quote:
The problem is traction and inconsistent launches.
Simple, cheap RWD cars like the twins will always suffer in 0-60 times vs sophisticated and over-engineered cars with dedicated launch modes and, especially, AWD. Wider, stickier rear tyres would help address some of the twin’s traction issues at least.

0-60 is a pretty irrelevant metric on a track or on the road once you are moving, but since the only ‘race time’ many road cars see are red light drag races from a dig, people obsess over it. For me it is in gear acceleration that matters and makes daily driving more pleasant.

I agree that Mazda is currently making the best engines. Too bad I can't get their engine in a BRZ. I'm considering a Mazda 3 hatch with Skyactiv-X and AWD converted to RWD.
Basically my I want my next car to be a turbo4, RWD, under 3000lbs, with some cargo capacity. A unicorn.
