Why is it so important to cut the bump stops when lowering my frs?

I installed the tein s tech springs on my FRS and low and behold i forgot to cut the bump stops. What is the purpose of cutting my bump stops? and is it a major step?

Did you buy the tein's second hand? I would have thought the kit would have supplied replacement stops.

Short answer: They are bump stops. Less spring + more bump stop = big bumps

Because when the car is going around a corner and it hits a big bump it is going to jump when it hits the bump-stop hard. This causes the tire to lose traction, the car to snap around in sudden over-steer (or under-steer if on front) and you will die a horrible death taking all your passengers with you.

Picture it this way, you and your buddy Springbob are having a push and shove match. You are equally matched and with a little give and take. Then your other friend Bumpbob, weighing like 1000 lbs and moving very fast, suddenly rams into the back of Springbob. You pretty much lose your footing and go for a loop on your ass. That is what happens to your tire and its traction.

So, like not a big deal.

Except it's not that bad. It effectively raises the spring rate, but it's not like hitting a wall.
