That timeline is probably as close as they can get. I would think you can count on the longer end of it though. Saying it "will" be built and when it is built are two different things.
Not sure what they meant by "the factory confirmed..." though. The Toyotas (FRS/86/GR86) were never able to be factory ordered since they are built by Subaru. A car will be built and your dealer may get it in allotment or dealer trade but that is about as far I it goes for "orders". There is no car scheduled at the factory that has your name attached to it though.

Car isn't built yet. Best they could have is a VON. Be the first/only person to get one for a GR86 if they do!

That's what I always understood about the process, so my dealer's update had me very confused. This made me think of another question though. If you place an order at a lower volume dealer, does this mean that even though you ordered a car, there's a chance that dealership won't get an allocation despite there being an active order for one?

Yep. The cars will be allotted based on sales. The lower dealer will get some but not in the configuration you requested.

Really only an issue right now because of the shutdowns. Under more normal conditions the Toyota dealers will trade around to get whatever you want. My local dealer had to bring my Hakone in from Calgary for me but it went flawlessly since there were cars available to trade. Right now the dealers are holding onto any vehicle they can get their hands on because if not already sold it will be very quickly.

My wife ordered an Ascent in January and it just came in last Friday. When we picked it up yesterday the dealer said they had no less that 30 people stop and ask if it was for sale and a couple offer them more than MRSP if they would sell it to them right there! Said they could easily have sold 20 of them in the 6 days it was there.

Maybe they are all spoken for in Ontario so none make it to stock level.

So this one isn’t sold? Now the dealership will likely markup the price

Not that there are many dealers showing them in stock but I have yet to see a single one with a marked up price anyplace in Canada.
And why would they mark up a stock one if they weren't already doing it for an order?

I've been waiting since I placed my order at the beginning of September 2021, and my dealer called me last night to tell me they had a 2022 Track bRed MT Base (I ordered the Track bRed MT Premium). I may have made a mistake turning it down but I'm sure the next person he called was very happy!

I also saw a premium red one in a parking lot at Church/Bloor (Toronto) on Monday, and I was really taken with how good it looked in red.

Whew, that's tough. I feel for ya. You're doing the right thing holding out, I think.

There was a guy in my region that waited 6 months for bRed Premium MT (same as I am) and was told he finally had a car, only to learn once the allocation showed on their site it was a base. They posted about it either here on 86 org. I'm not sure what he did. Has to be hard to go through that.

If having to wait for a car in the colour ad trim level you want is the worst thing happening in your life then I have news for you.
